The iSleep Signature is a unique air mattress design that combines air chambers, pocket springs, and organic latex to create a customizable and organic sleep system. But is it right for you?
Founder of GoodBed, Leading Mattress Expert
The iSleep Signature is different than most other air mattresses on the market.
Most air mattresses use a simple air chamber for a support layer and then add some type of poly foam or memory foam on top. The iSleep, however, adds an additional layer of pocket springs and five inches of organic latex. The addition of these components improves on the typical air mattress design and also solves some of the problems inherent to airbeds.
Whereas other air mattresses are typically only able to weakly contour to body curves - after all, the underlying air chamber tends to be somewhat inelastic, at least compared to springs - the iSleep Signature's layer of pocket springs gives it even more flexibility and conformance. In effect, this acts as a dual-stage support layer, similar to spring-on-spring hybrids. But unlike with a typical hybrid, with the iSleep Signature you also get the adjustable comfort of an airbed.
We thought that the iSleep could fit a wide range of sleepers - much wider than the average mattress. This is not only due to the adjustability of the underlying air chamber, but also to the conformability of the pocket springs in the support layers. In other words, we think it'd fit a wider range of sleepers relative to the typical mattress AND to the typical air mattress. We also thought that it performed well in terms of pressure relief. Five inches of latex is quite a lot of comfort material, although some people are sensitive to latex and tend to prefer memory foam or other materials to maximize pressure relief. Still, we thought it performed well.
In terms of Softness and Cushioning Depth (the two metrics for determining the initial feel of a mattress), we found that the iSleep was about a Medium-Firm with a variable sense of Cushioning Depth. At softer settings, the air chamber and pocket spring design created a lot of Cushioning Depth - what we’d call Deep Cushioning. At firmer settings, we’d say that this was closer to a Slightly Shallow depth. Again, the sense of surface Softness created by the latex layers was about a Medium-Firm, although we should point out that this layer can also be adjusted with the addition of different layers of latex.
In terms of other Features, we found that the iSleep performed well on an adjustable base, although the performance here was less impressive at the higher (read: firmer) settings. It also has a lot of natural materials. The latex used is organic and the and the cover and side panels use both organic cotton and wool. The only non-natural material is likely found in the air chamber and associated hoses. These are typically laminated polyurethanes or various types of rubber and plastic.
The iSleep Signature Mattress is a unique air mattress design that combines air chambers and pocket springs with organic latex. It's highly adjustable, made of premium and exceptionally durable materials, and surprisingly breathable. We think it’s an excellent option for people that are looking for an adjustable mattress or anyone that likes the feel of latex.
The “feel” characteristics of a mattress cannot be universally better or worse. They can only be more or less desirable to you, based on your personal preferences. For this reason, we call these “preference-based” attributes. Our ratings here are based on objective measurements that we apply to a consistent scale for products from all brands.
Our testing showed that the iSleep Signature was about a Medium-Firm overall. The overlying latex layers are soft - but not super soft - and do a good job of balancing support and comfort. In fact, we found that the iSleep was about a Medium-Firm at lower settings AND at higher settings. There's enough latex in the comfort layers (five inches) that this initial feeling is pretty consistent. What changes at the different settings is more the underlying sense of Cushioning Depth and contour.
In terms of Cushioning Depth, the iSleep Signature varies based on the setting of the air chamber. At lower settings, there is a sense of deeper Cushioning Depth. We'd put this at Deep. At higher settings, there is less contour and less overall Cushioning Depth. We'd put this at Slightly Shallow, with the majority of the Cushioning Depth at the highest settings coming from the five inches of latex on top of the mattress.

The key to good back support is for the mattress to support your spine in a “neutral” position while you sleep, meaning that the shape of your spine is roughly the same as when you're standing. The ability of any given mattress to do this will vary by sleeper, depending on its “fit” for your weight, body shape, and preferred sleep position(s).
We found that the iSleep performed well for Side Sleeping. The adjustability of the air chambers means that it fits a wide range of sleepers and body types. The inclusion of the pocket springs also helps with this, and creates more conformance than what you'd see on a typical air mattress. We thought the softer settings would do especially well for Side Sleepers, although if it's too soft it might disrupt alignment.
Similarly, we found that the iSleep also worked well for Back Sleepers. Back sleepers typically prefer a slightly firmer sleep surface, and the adjustability of the underlying air chamber also works well here. We thought that this performed particularly well on medium and firmer settings (we tested at 50), although it still worked well at the softer settings.
Finally, we also thought the iSleep could work well for Stomach Sleepers. For this we'd recommend a firmer setting for most people. The latex comfort layers also do a good job of creating pressure relief without your overall distorting spinal alignment.

Inadequate pressure relief from your mattress results in “pressure points,” which can be a source of pain, soreness, loss of circulation, restlessness, and other problems. Pressure relief requirements will vary be sleeper, with side sleepers needing the most. Likewise, the amount of pressure relief that a given mattress provides will also vary by sleeper, depending on its “fit” for your weight and body shape.
We thought that the iSleep performed well in terms of Pressure Relief. Latex is an inherently buoyant and resilient material, but in softer formulations this still does a good job of relieving pressure. We'd put this at Pretty Good to Good for most sleepers. The Pressure Relief might be slightly better with a specialty foam or a memory foam, but then you'd lose the durability and breathability of the organic latex.

With the “features” of a mattress, performance will tend to be consistent across all sleepers – without regards to your body type or preferences. However, these attributes have differing levels of importance to each sleeper, which is why we consider them “priority-based” characteristics.
In terms of Motion Isolation, we also thought the iSleep Signature was Pretty Good. The use of multiple air chambers and underlying pocket springs dampens the sense of motion felt in the deeper layers of the mattress, although some amount of motion is still transmitted through the latex comfort layers and the overlying quilted fabric itself.
We've recently incorporated lab-measured heat retention testing into all of our mattress reviews.
We thought that the iSleep performed surprisingly well in our testing. In fact, we've often found that mattresses made with natural fibers and latex perform very well in this regard - sometimes better than mattresses with advertised "cooling" features! While the iSleep doesn't have a lot (or any) initial coolness-to-the-touch, we would expect it to remain cool and breathable all night long due to the natural materials.
We thought the overall Edge Support was Very Good. The foam rails that contain the air chambers are surprisingly solid. When the air chamber is fully inflated and "firm," this sense of Edge Support was even better.
The use of latex in the comfort layers also makes it easy to change positions on the iSleep, especially at firmer settings. If you're concerned about feeling "stuck" in a mattress - you likely won't get that here.
We thought that the iSleep was Very Good in terms of Green Features. The use of organic wool and cotton and organic latex adds a lot to the mattress. As stated above, the only features that aren't made with natural materials are really the electronic components. Everything else scores very highly for Green Features.
The iSleep performed well on an adjustable base. We did notice just a bit of fabric bunching at the quilt and sides, but this is quite common with most mattresses. The underlying pocket coils are able to flex and function well in all positions. That said, we did notice that it was less conforming at higher settings, although this is what you'd expect with a somewhat stiff and maximally-inflated air chamber.
| Motion Isolation | 6 | Pretty Good |
| Stays 'Cool' | 6 | Pretty Good |
| Edge Support | 6-8 | Pretty Good to Very Good |
| Ease of Repositioning | 7-10 | Good to Very Good |
| Green Features | 8 | Very Good |
| Adjustable Base Compatibility | 5 | Okay |
| Overall Value | 8 | Very Good |

The iSleep Signature is an air mattress comprised of five layers:
The iSleep Signature is a unique air mattress with both an internal adjustable air chamber and a second layer of underlying pocket springs.
At the top of the mattress, we have a soft and somewhat thin quilted cover made with organic cotton and wool. Just underneath this, there are five inches of Organic latex with a relatively soft layer positioned over a medium layer. Just underneath this, we have the adjustable air chambers and the underlying pocket springs. The cover also unzips to allow for easy access to the internal components.

The “value” of any mattress is both subjective and personal – reflecting how well it meets that person’s unique sleep needs and preferences, relative to their budget. As a result, our ratings in this area are focused on more objective factors like quality and longevity.
We've recently incorporated scientific lab testing for durability into our mattress reviews. We use a machine that simulates ten years of regular use and checks the mattress for height and firmness at regular intervals throughout those ten years of simulated use.
We thought that the durability of the iSleep was Excellent overall. It uses very durable materials like latex and air chambers. These are materials that we have seen last for many years - sometimes even multiple decades. The only relative weak point in the design would likely be in the electronic components of the air chamber controls. Like all electronics, these can sometimes malfunction or need to be replaced.

Warranty information for each mattress is included on the mattress "Law Label" at the store, and vary depending on the model. Be sure to talk to your salesperson about warranty terms, and particularly about the body impression warranty, which will tell you how much of a permanent depression may form to be covered under warranty. In the case of the iSleep, customers have a full warranty with full replacement of defective parts for years 1-3, and 50% off replacement parts for years 4-20.
