Getting the Best Deal on a Mattress
How to Save Money on Your Mattress

Last updated on September 28, 2020

Now you’re ready to buy your new mattress! You'll sleep even better knowing you’ve done the work to make sure you’re getting a quality mattress that’s a good match for you, at the best possible price from a retailer you can trust.

GoodBed's Trusted Retailer program is one way to ensure both. These retailers have passed our "Mom test" for excellent customer service, fair pricing, no sales pressure, and transparent company policies. This is how we identify and reward the 'good eggs' – the stores to which we'd feel absolutely comfortable sending our mom (or any family member or friend).

Exclusively for stores that meet our standards as a Trusted Retailer, we offer you a $50 cash-back rebate from GoodBed for taking your business there. Trusted Retailers are indicated with an icon on our mattress store locator, which you can search by zip code.

Best Price + Best Store

Getting the Best Price

Based on our experience studying the mattress industry for years, you should expect to pay between $1,000 and $1,500 for a good quality, long-lasting mattress made with proven materials and durable construction from a reputable brand.

Finding the best price is a combination of knowing how much you can expect to pay for a given mattress (see our article on how mattress pricing works) combined with timing your purchase to take advantage of sales (see Holiday Mattress Deals).

And don't forget to check GoodBed's mattress brand pages, where you'll find the best available coupon codes and discounts (some of which are exclusive to GoodBed) to save you more money. Simply search the site at the top of the page for the mattress you're considering, or see our alphabetical list of brands.

Finding a Trustworthy Retailer

Whether you buy your bed from an online store, a dedicated mattress store, a furniture store, or a department store, you want to feel good about your purchase, and confident you'll receive good service and support if you need it.

Keep in mind that a retailer may have additional services (like free delivery or financing) that add value to your purchase.

Know the store’s return policy, including any restocking fees on returned mattresses, and whether the seller will pick up a returned bed (shipping it yourself can be a huge hassle).

You can also check a retailer's score from the Better Business Bureau, which awards grades based how well the retailer works to resolve complaints.

Check our article on choosing a retailer, including what to look for in terms of store policies and customer service, as well as finding mattress retailers in your area. GoodBed Trusted Retailers already meet our stringent criteria for integrity.
