Insights from Saatva
Saatva (which means "truth"). Our belief is that people can make an intelligent mattress buying decision without high pressure or a phony sale. Our extremely efficient online business model allows us to sell our luxury mattresses online for so much less than our competitors who operate stores. It's clear that more and more consumers are becoming e-commerce savvy. Through our world class e-commerce site, we are able to make all the necessary information clear and precise, so you can take your time and shop at your leisure. We have made buying a luxury mattress easy. At Saatva, you receive a 75 day home trial, with no pick up fees, no restocking fees. The only cost you would be responsible for is your original delivery fee. This is the friendliest return policy in the luxury mattress market. Retail stores continue to charge excessive fees inclusive of exchange/restocking fees and pickup charges for returning a mattress. E-commerce businesses generally have better return policies, so we must exceed your expectations. That's our philosophy, and that's what we do every day. Buying online is simple, smart and efficient.
Additionally, please know we take great pride in our ability to build the best mattress available and that each Saatva mattress is handcrafted in America. We select the best mattress manufacturers in America that service our local distribution areas to craft our proprietary product.

Our memory foam mattress was making me physically sick. I figured we didn't have anything to lose with trying this mattress because of the many great reviews on the Saatva. I was drawn in by how the Saatva mattress is constructed with eco-friendly materials. Customer service was indeed awesome. Once it was delivered, I wanted to like it and at the same time I wanted to not like it because it was a lot firmer than what I was use to. But from the get go, both me and my spouse have slept really well on it. My back pain has honestly been better. My only regret is not getting the smaller box spring.
Pain in the back…
As a recently turned 50 year old and ex competitive athlete I have suffered through low back pain the past 8 years. I had a surgery to fuse my SI joint and try to stabilize my low back and bring some relief, it provided some benefit but I would still wake up every day with major back pain. I have slept on the highly marketed and somewhat popular dial-a-hardness air mattress for the past 6 year and I felt it was time to move on and find some relief.
I spent a great deal of time researching the internet on best mattress especially for back pain suffers, etc. I read pretty much every review on Saatva; the reviews, the warranty, the value for a high-end luxury mattress, and the customer service all combined to make my decision an easy one to go with a Saatva mattress. I selected the “Flagship Luxury Firm” King based on the reviews from a few fellow back pain suffers, easily and quickly placed my order online and waited impatiently for my new mattress.
So here’s the bad news-good news. The middle firmness level of the “Luxury Firm” was too soft for my back. I would still wake up in pain in the middle of the night and upon getting up in the morning it took a good while to get moving, I found my pain level was pretty high and I was not sleeping well. I was so reluctant to call the company and “complain”, it’s simply not my style, but I made the call. The customer service agent could not have been easier, more polite, and more accommodating...”not a problem Mr. Kelly we’ll take care of it and switch you to our firm King.” Within a minute or two I was off the phone and had an email confirmation of the new order. Within a few weeks they picked up the other mattress and set up my new King Firm Saatva. Wow, what a mattress. I wish I could say I wake up pain free but I don’t. I do sleep through the night and when I wake up it’s a moderate low-level pain…perhaps a 1-2 on scale of 10 where before a good morni ng was a 5 at best. My wife loves it as well and our level of true rest has increased tremendously
Excellent mattress with the best customer service! Very pleased!
We have only slept on this mattress for about 3 weeks. It seems to be all it was advertised to be. We too had some delivery issues but quite frankly, Saatva customer service is second to none in any industry. If, over the long run, the mattress proves to be as good as the customer service was, this will have been a great buy. Comfort level of the mattress is very pleasing to me and my back issues.
I was very impressed with ordering this bed on line. The web site is easy to navigate and the the Saatva folks were there to help me through the process.
I have just ordered my second mattress for the guest room. I know that I will get a quality product with hassle-free-impeccalbe service! What more could one ask for?
As most of the people here have stated, I was also skeptical ordering a mattress online. I'm a researcher when it comes to buying anything. I read and read and read before I buy a product and go to stores and do a lot of looking. I'm a self-professed Frugal Fanny also and try to find the best deal on the best product when I buy anything. All of the above being said, I decided on the Saatva because of everything I read about it. Not only on the Saatva website but on other websites and You Tube mattress reviewers as well.
I am in love with my Luxury Firm mattress. I like a firm mattress and my husband likes one that's not so firm. This one is perfect for both of us. We were using an organic latex mattress with a luxury pillowtop and it slept too hot for me. I would wake up soaked in sweat. My husband would complain of being hot also when he was home. He travels a lot and said he didn't have that problem at hotels. The mattress also had indentions where I slept even though I turned it often. I felt like I was sleeping in a hole. I'm a stomach and back sleeper and my husband is a side sleeper. The latex mattress cost us around $5,000 and all I could think of was I needed to get rid of it. It was 8 years old, but had a 20-year warranty. Good Riddance!
I'm so, so happy I found Saatva. I slept better from the first night. It's heaven to me. I have had a hard time sleeping for years and now I'm so absolutely comfortable. I also have Fibromyalgia and I have no aches, pains or stiffness from this mattress.
I have only had my Luxury Firm mattress about a month and would fight someone if they tried to take it back. This was a great decision for my husband and I and if you are skeptical don't be. It's Heaven!
Saatva is a company that truly cares about the well-being of its customers. They were quick to answer all my questions and concerns. They even went the extra mile when I had a special request for them. Not only that, the VP of the company got in touch with me to personally see that everything was correctly taken care of. Saatva's end goal is to see that their customer's achieve a good nights' rest.
I had been waking up with a stiff back and attributed it to exercise and/or old age. Then I travelled abroad for two weeks and slept fabulously. Ah! My MATTRESS is the problem! The SAATVA ad was in my Sunday NYTimes Magazine and I placed the order. I had a delivery issue but the General Manager jumped on it personally, immediately and the issue was solved. I am in love with my mattress! Sweet dreams, everyone.
The best mattress i bought in my life, King Size Firm
Delivery in June 9, 2015 and in a week no more back pain
Just try it and you wiil sleep overall the clouds. Thanks you
Best bed I ever owned.better than beds at three times the value.cant wait to go to bed,it's like sleeping on a cloud
I do feel bad writing this review but I really can't take the pain any longer. Now my husband says he has had pain since we purchased the King Luxury Firm but chalked it up to age (49). He really doesn't complain much but today woke up with terrible lower back pain. My 10 yr old grandson also told me last night while sleeping in my bed that both his legs became numb and tingling, which is very weird. I will be calling Saatva on Monday. Let me 1st say that the customer service is very pleasant to deal with so that was a plus. When I 1st purchased this mattress Feb 2014 (due to the great reviews) it was delivered with about a 2 inch bulge on one side from top to bottom of the mattress. I called and they refunded a fair portion of the amount. I did state that I had terrible pain and tingling/numb from the 1st day. They said that it was because the mattress was new and the pain/numbness should subside as this is normal. TERRIBLE TO SAY, IT NEVER DID. I have been in pain almost daily since sleeping on this mattress. I figured since they refunded some of the mattress price I couldn't complain. I do have to say in honesty, I have arthritis in my neck, back pain, etc so it may be hard to please me when it comes to mattresses. I really did try with this mattress (1 1/2 yrs) but we are going to look into a new mattress with another company. I wish I would have called Saatva sooner because I am sure they would have worked with me regarding a return. I now know that this is one of the defective mattresses that was received (bulging, sagging where we sleep (my husband 230lbs, ME 125lbs), pain). It just didn't work for us. A frustrated customer with PAIN.
Initially had the soft version, hated that and returned for the lux firm. We haven't had a good nights sleep since purchase. We cant afford another, but its so bad, we are going to donate it. Just terrible
Their website claims that this Saatva mattress is Made of Organic Cotton and the foam used is a "bio based foam".
No one knows what that means. So I started a chat when them and was told that the was was either made from soy or corn oil.
It was also stated that no Chemical Flame Retardant is used and that the mattress is "chemical free". According to the live chat support.
I thought, wow, Organic Cotton and a "bio-based foam" mattress for under $1000? Interesting. I've had bad luck before and already lost $800 due to purchasing 2 mattress that didn't work for me.
So I went ahead and placed my order. I got a call from the delivery company and set up a 9am delivery.
Instead, they arrived at 6am and I was half asleep. Nevertheless, I got the mattress. When I cut open the bag, I noticed a distinct smell of polyurethane foam. I thought to myself, this can't be.
I looked at the label and what do you know? It's 70% Polyurethane! What a misleading sales tactic used by their site and chat support. Why not mention Polyurethane?
I chatted once again and this time, they confirmed, it was 30% corn / soy and the rest is Polyurethane.
Upon looking at their site. I noticed that they use CertiPUR foams.
CertiPUR clearly states that their unacceptable claims that are not related to the CertiPUR-US program are "soy, agri or bio-based content, Green, Safe, Non-Toxic and Sustainable".
This is the exact opposite of what we see at Saatva's website.
We can read all that here:
There is a reason why there are so many comments regarding delivery - Saatva's delivery services are poorly lacking. I realize that Saatva relies on their delivery partners however would recommend Saatva evaluate their partners and work with only those that meet/keep commitments.
I was on the verge of canceling the entire order after trying to work with Saatva and their delivery staff - the mattress itself may be good but, in hindsight, the delivery hassle's just are not worth it.
Buyer beware, although the website currently tells you only that they use a "natural thistle fire barrier with a bit of polyester", there IS something else in the fire barrier. I started having lung irritation after taking it out of the plastic and this irritation is consistent with my experiences with other mattresses where the fire barrier was an issue. It is NOT off gassing, it's not fumes, it is an odorless irritant and it doesn't go away. This is exactly what I was trying to avoid by buying this mattress. I e-mailed the company and asked if they used something else in their fire barrier. I asked about silica and I was told there "may" be silica in there and that if I was sensitive I shouldn't buy the mattress. Why not disclose this in the first place and avoid this nonsense? I also asked them about borates but recieved no response on that one. No refund, now I can't breath, coughing... Buyers beware, if you're at all sensitive let me give you the warning that the Saatva website does not give you: This mattress may cause lung irritation.
We take these false accusations very seriously. This person never bought from us. She bought a used Saatva from a thrift store. Actually, we, nor this person can attest that the used mattress she bought from the thrift store is a genuine Saatva. We have no idea what condition or even how many owners had this used mattress. We do know the factory fresh Saatva mattresses are environmentally friendly with no irritants. We wish this person the best of luck in finding her mattress source. Again, it is only appropriate that this person should state she did not buy from Saatva.
The reviews led us to hope for a quality, comfortable, reasonably priced mattress without the salesperson blather. Initial quality was very good. Comfortable, apparently well made unit. Delivery was messed up/damage but customer service $adjusted for us. Unfortunately the body depressions grew rapidly and became uncomfortable. We come in at 195 and 135 lbs. so no mitigating circumstances. Now my wife (the 135 lb.) complains of discomfort in the "gully". Even not so heavy areas as knees generate a good depression area. I submitted a review on the Saatva website but it was intercepted and not published. So here I am to advise the other side to all the great initial reviews.
We are very sorry and concerned as to this customer's comments about his Saatva. We spoke with the customer back in late February when he wrote his initial comments. We gave a partial refund and the customer posted a very positive review of the situation. However, at this point, we know this to be a defective mattress as the customer's description in this review speaks only of a rare time that a Saatva mattress is built defectively. We called the customer last week, left a message for him to return the call as our intention is to quickly remove the mattress and give the customer every nickel of the remaining monies he paid to Saatva. The customer has yet to contact us. We look forward to resolving this issue as fast as possible. Our apology to this customer for receiving what we now know to be a defective Saatva mattress.
Based on a suggestion from my chiropractor, we purchased this mattress about five months ago. Because I have a 'bad back', we went beyond the 30-day return cutoff, blaming my back and not the bed. This bed has never felt comfortable and my assessment is that it is too soft. The quality is fine and the customer service is great. When I finally called the company, they offered to send a firmer mattress to the tune of $240. We get to keep the luxury firm mattress. The firmer mattress has arrived and it is better but not great. Since we have already invested so much money in this mattress, I am looking at adding a foam topper. If I lay on my back and don't move all night, my lower back is ok. I cannot sleep in any other position on this mattress without tempting the 'Back Fates'. I would dearly love to find a mattress that made me love getting into bed. This is not it. A word to the wise.....keep an eye on the calendar when trying out this mattress. If it doesn't feel good within a week, it's not going to get any better. I should have followed my own advice. I will be trying out foam mattresses for the next several weeks!!
I recieved a call from the CEO of Saatva. After a conversation about my experience with the mattress, he agreed to accept the returned mattress. I will pay a minimal return fee. This is a decent resolution to our issue.
Original Review (1/30/13):
We purchased the Luxury Firm mattress. After sleeping on it for several, we found it very uncomfortable. My arm regularly falls asleep and I wake up having to change positions and with that awful prickly feeling. We were reluctant to go through the hassle of returning it and having to find another mattress and decided to purchase a foam topper to cushion it. We purchased a 4 inch foam topper and spent 2 weeks trying that out. The mattress is still uncomfortable. I then contacted Saatva to return the mattress. We were 10 days past the 30-day return window. They offered no flexibility despite our efforts (purchasing the foam topper) and despite the 30 day window occuring over the holidays (Xmas and New Years).
I would not recommed the mattress or Saatva to anyone.
