Took me a few months to REALLY dial in my number, but once I got it, best night's sleep I've ever had. Sleeps as good today as the day we bought it 10 yrs ago.
I LOVE this bed. Got it for guest room & started sleeping on it instead of my Craftmatic bed. Wish I could find a queen for my own room. Practically eliminated my normal morning "pain over." My lower back is fused & this is the first time I have been pain free in the morning since my original injuries....& I got this mattress at a local Hospice Thrift Store for less than $150.00!!
This bed was recommended by my surgeon after several surgeries. It was purchased as a gift by my children to help relive back and leg/ joint pain. I was doubtful but was blown away at how much better I felt from the very first day. I have had it several years and it is like the first day! I'm still in Love with it!
My wife and I have had this Cal-King Select Comfort bed for about 17 years. It has a pillow top. It came with a 20 year warranty.
I'm 6'1" and come in at about 250 lbs. My wife is 5'4" and weighs about 125. Both of us are over 60 years old. My wife has had 3 back surgeries to fuse vertebrae together.
This bed has been good to us all things considered. It was an easy set up. It took a bit to get the settings right, but now, no problem. We've only had small issues with the air staying in, and mostly it only loses a bit when we find it necessary to move the bed. The pump has been reliable the entire time we've owned it.
This is a somewhat hot bed, especially when you first use it. Over the 17 years we've had it, that hasn't improved a whole lot. We do have a mattress warming pad (rather than an electric blanket) since we've moved to Missouri and that may inhibit the air movement a bit, but only slightly I think.
At about the 8 year mark the bed started showing a bit of a ridge in the middle from the foot to the head. I suspect that the foam may be breaking down a bit, however, it still remains comfortable after all these years. Each of my three adult children and their spouses have used the bed during times we've been away and all of them have tried to lay claim to it should we get another bed.
We've loved this bed for a long time now, and we're starting to think about another bed that will probably see us into the hereafter. The only problem I have now with this bed is what it would cost us to replace it with a bed of the same quality from the same manufacturer.
I've seen claims from all different manufacturers about high recommendations and so forth for this type bed, or that type. I can only tell you to do an extensive bit of homework, read reviews, know your warranty info and return info before making a choice. It's a fairly important thing because of the amount of time you'll spend in the bed, and it's supposed to provide a refreshing sleep as well as help aches and pains.
It's great being able to adjust each side independently with the wireless remote.
The innovation available for couples to have their own preferred firmness in one bed is remarkable.
This is the worst bed I've ever owned! From the beginning, the mattress couldn't hold air on one side of the bed, always had to refill it daily. Customer service was no help with the problem, they said to place a cap on that side of the bed so that it would stop leaking. I had to stop sleeping on the bed over a year ago as I realized I was constantly sick with severe respiratory infections and asthma attacks. The cause for my illness is mold that has grown in the clear plastic tubing that connects to the air pump. No one sleeps on this toxic bed anymore, I need to get it out of my house! This bed was a waste of money and detrimental to my health.
Do you like experimenting with your sleep? Do you like paying large sums of money for add ons that other products can provide for free? Do you like that half inflated air mattress, going to fall out of the bed, watch your partner bounce when you roll over feeling? This is totally the bed for you!
1. It is very easy to setup, and almost weights nothing.
2. Shipping and home delivery was super easy.
3. They give you 100 days to try out the bed.
4. Others say that if you hit your perfect number its like heaven, and you will never change it.
1. You become an experiment, if you are one of the people who do not hit their perfect number night one, you only have 99 more to try (they say to try a new number for 3-4 days you can do the math on how many sleepless, tossing filled nights that is).
2. The range of support is not as good as you would think, 100-70 is rock hard, 70-45 you can feel the ridges of the air mattress, 35-10 like sleeping on a half inflated air mattress.
3. Movement. Every tiny movement feels like a 80 dollar air mattress from walmart. (the two chambers side side by side) and forget getting anywhere near the side of the bed.
4. IQ? Seriously this is a near 1000 dollar upgrade that enabled you to control your bed with your phone and see how well you slept last night. Thats it. Pop open your app store and search for apps that do this for you... guess what... most are free.
5. Support was ok once you got into the correct queue, I called three times and waited for over 4 hours to talk to a human. High call volume? Lots of support questions? Not a good sign to me. They did finally get someone to help and they sent some more foam to pack in there.
FYI they give you a hundred days to try out the bed, what they don't tell you is all the bedding you got with it, only 30 days, that home delivery, non refundable, and you are stuck with the bill to send it back. If you got an adjustable base, nope sorry. At least its air, foam, and fancy rainbow colored smoke.
We purchased a sleep number bed over 9 years ago and loved it! The , a year or so ago, we found mold inside. Apparently, there was a recall. We were never informed. The company sent out a brand new bed (after our newborn co-slept with us for nearly 3 years, having developed beginning asthma...). Well, the new bed squeaks with every movement! It is the plastic-y topper fabric that rubs on itself. We sleep horribly! Customer service has been useless. We are going to buy a new bed at this point...grrr...
Worst investment ever. We bought the bed, had it shipped to us, set it up and tried it and hated it. First of all my side air chamber leaked profusely. I would set it at a certain setting at night and wake up to an empty chamber. So I call and they send out another chamber. It works but now the air pump won't fill up my husband and my side correctly. The numbers never matched the amount of air in the bed and a year later we have tried every number and found no comfort. We both wake up in constant pain. It's depressing spending so much money on complete crap. And when you call customer service, they tell you to give it time to "break in". Well conveniently that time makes it go over the crappy 90 day try out period. Wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy.
Got the bed delivered. Programmed our sleep number...gave it a try (three days as instructed by our salesperson). When I got in bed the first time, I felt that it was completely different than the bed we had tested in store (so did my husband). Much more uncomfortable. Woke the first night with a backache...next knee pain...now feel like I have been in an auto accident or have been beaten up. VERY UNDERWHELMED. VERY DISAPPOINTED. For the money spent, I would expect much more. Worse yet, I am reading even with the "in home trial" I will have to pay for them to pick it up. I paid over 150 to have them deliver the bed which took them all of 15 minutes to install. :(
The day we recieved the bed we were so happy... 30 days in we were in pain. Not just discomfort.. I m talking numb legs, middle of the back pain, shoulder discomfort, I can go on and on. After calling custiomer support they sent us foam pieces to put inbetween the topper and the air chamber. that worked for about 1 month. Then they sent us foam pieces to put under the air chambers.. not any better. So the last draw for us was the foam they sent for the third time.. 3" foam to replace two 11/2" foam?? stupid. They drug us through the ringer for almost a year until we could not take it anymore. I packed it up in boxes at 2am one night ( I really wanted to burn it!) and call the next morning and demanded a retrun or a repalcement. Well since it had been a year they would not replace it with out us purchasing another..?? So we returned it and lost $1000. for shipping and a 30% restocking fee.. This is the worst experiance ever!!
The absolute worst bed ever. The first 6 months were amazing after that it was all down hill. The foam padding around the air bladders crush. Since the bladders fill in a curvature on top u roll to the center sleeping in a valley. If you move to the othe side of the bladder you slide of the side of the bed. Absolutely the worst bed ever designed or concieved of.
It's terrible. There is a lump in the middle andwe have one pump that went out. It's like sleeping in a hole. Talk about a backache! You can only sleep in one little spot because you can feel the outside frame all around. Then you have this big pump and wires all over. I woujld never buy this again.
I have had the bed for about 8 years or so. The foam dividers are starting to disinegrate and the gray foam is coming apart. One side of the pump went bad I and found out it would cost close to 100 dollars to replace it. I took it apart and found out a small wire had shorted out in a smale replaceable solenoid. They would not send me the part even though they could look it up in their system. I would never buy this type of bed again and would not reccommend it to anyone. It is a big store hype and way over priced for what you get.
We bought this mattress from a Select Comfort Store at our local Mall; thinking this was going to be the greatest thing. A good night sleep with no aches in the morning. We have an Antique Highback full size bed and it being a small bed we at least wanted a mattress that would be great and worth keeping the bed. This mattress I would not recommend to anyone. We should have sent it back within the 30 night trial period, but thought we were not getting our numbers right to where they needed to be. Eventually it got worse and we were rolling into the center of the bed. Select Comfort was called and all they could do for us was send us a cheap mattress pad, which we paid for. They said this would resolve the problem. It did not! It was such a cheap foam pad too. It became to a point where we could no longer share the bed together. The couch was more comfortable!! Actually my dog's bed is probably more comfortable too! We ended up putting it on a spare bed until we can sale it. Which we feel bad to even do that. We don't want someone else to be out like us. We lost $2097.16 & $23.64 for the pad, which they called it a single chamber lift. Please know we rate this with No Stars, but had to rate it with one in order for this review to be taken.
