Summary: King Koil Scott Living Signature Collection

The new Scott Living collection from King Koil is a collaboration from one of the oldest and most respected names in mattresses with one of the most well-known names in the home products industry - Drew and Jonathan Scott. 

And while this might initially look like it’s just celebrity marketing, we actually learned that the Scott Brothers were deeply involved with the creation of these mattresses. In our conversation with Jonathan at a recent trade show, we discovered that he knows the specs and product details as well as any mattress nerd or industry engineer. We were impressed.

But it didn’t stop there. We were also impressed with the mattresses themselves. These all have the careful tailoring and luxury fabrics we’ve come to expect from King Koil, in addition to some unique internal components. Let’s start with the features these all have in common.

Shared Features in All Models

Specialty Foams

All of the Scott Living mattresses have some amount of specialty foam in their upholstery layers. This is typically a gel memory foam, which King Koil calls Flexara Foam. This is usually found in the upper layers of the mattress, although in some models (like the Elia Medium), it’s actually used as a transition layer. In all cases it adds a bit of additional Cushioning Depth and Pressure Relief.

The few models that don’t have gel memory foam have graphite-infused latex instead. This is an extremely high-quality and durable material that adds both temperature regulation and a bit of deeper bounce to the mattress. In both cases these are high-quality materials.

Pocket Springs

All of the Scott Living mattresses also use some kind of pocket spring system. In the case of the Elia and Floren models, this is a non-zoned pocket spring with a particularly high coil count that King Koil is calling their Scott Living Signature (SLS) Encased Coil System. In the case of the Kensley and Rosara models, however, they use a five-zone system (called the FiveFlex Encased Coil) designed to provide a bit of extra support to the lumbar spine and middle third of the mattress.

Luxury Fabrics

Finally, all of the Scott Living mattresses use a quilt fabric that is designed to help regulate body heat. This fabric is both cool-to-the-touch (by way of polyethylene fiber) and is designed to increase breathability and airflow (King Koil calls this their FiberFlow system). In our time with these, we found the quilted fabric to be soft and noticeably cool to the touch.

The Scott Living Signature Collection

The Scott Living Collection can be thought of in terms of three rough subcollections: the Elia and Floren models, the Kensley models, and the Rosara models. As you step up the line, these add additional features and tend to have more comfort material and more Cushioning Depth.

Elia/Floren Models

The Elie/Floren models represent the relative entry-level in the Scott Living Collection. These are non-zoned pocket spring mattresses that all use a mix of poly foam and gel memory foam in their comfort layers. They’re also available in an easy to understand Luxury Firm, Medium, and Plush configurations.

All of these use the same underlying SLS Encased Coil.

Kensly Models

The Kensly models add a layer of microcoils to the mix. These are incredibly small, tightly-packed coils about the diameter of a quarter that add softness and contour to the overall build. They’re also quite durable, as they’re made of very soft steel springs. The Kensly models are available in both Tight Top and Euro Top configurations. The Euro Tops add additional comfort material and tend to have a deeper sense of Cushioning Depth with more of a sense of nestling within the mattress.

These all use the FiveFlex Encased Coil (pictured below).

Rosara Models

The Rosara models are the top-of-the-line in the Scott Living Collection. These all have microcoils mentioned previously, but add graphite-infused latex to the construction. This improves their overall temperature regulation and adds a resilient layer to the comfort materials to balance out the increased height of the mattress. The Rosara Euro Top Medium and Euroto Top Plush (note this was Jonathan’s preference), also add an additional layer of Flexara memory foam.

Much like the Kensly models, all of the Rosara models use the Five Flex Encased Coil.

Who We Think These Are Best For

The Scott Living Collection is an exceptionally well-designed line of mattresses that bridges the gap from value to high-end luxury. These all have high-end specialty foams, robust coil units, and luxury fabrics with cooling features. What’s more, they’re available in a wide-range of firmnesses that should accommodate different sleeping positions and body types.

We think these would be a good fit for most people - and especially for those that want the feel of a more “traditional” pocket spring mattress. If you want a lot of memory feel or the feeling of a smooth-top hybrid however, then there may be better options in the greater King Koil catalogue. Otherwise, we think these are high-quality mattresses that compare well to any other mattress line on the market.

Warranty information for each mattress is included on the mattress "Law Label" at the store, and vary depending on the model. Be sure to talk to your salesperson about warranty terms, and particularly about the body impression warranty, which will tell you how much of a permanent depression may form to be covered under warranty.
