Hi there -- Thanks for your question. The Casper Hybrid is made to work on any sturdy and supportive surface. Basically, think something akin to a platform, though it could also be closely spaced slats. Many box springs would certainly qualify in this regard, but not all. For example, some box spring designs use a spartan wireframe design that does not provide the same level of uniformity in its support. Others do not provide adequate support underneath the center of the mattress, a particular problem in larger sizes like queen and king. And of course, an older box spring may no longer provide solid support due to wear and tear. Bottom line -- it doesn't need to say Casper on it, but it does need to be good at its job.
