How can I tell which is the top end of a mattress?

Does it matter which end is at the head and which is at the foot? If so, how can I tell which is which?

One Answer:

In general, this should not matter at all. Even mattresses that are designed with special "zoned support" in the center third of the mattress (to support your hips, which are the heaviest part of the body), are usually made symmetrically, so that they can be periodically rotated from head to toe. So, it doesn't matter which end you put at the head versus the foot.
