Sealy Posterpedic Highpoint Hybrid Elite nightmare

My name is Paul.

I'm really hoping that the community can tell me what they would do in my situation as it is a FIRST for me.

About me: 55 yrs old, 5'6" 170 lbs, I start off of my side and end up on my back. No stomach sleeping. Previous mattress: Simmons Beautyrest plush pillow top that lasted 12 years.

I am in desperate need of guidance. I purchased a new Sealy Posterpedic Elite High Point in their soft/plush model during Black Friday 2024 from Mattress Firm. It felt amazing in the store.

Shortly after sleeping on the Sealy, I began to develop lower back pain. It was advised to me that that was just my body getting used to it. This went on for 60 days. Mattress firm then charged me their $250 to swap out for the firm version and now, it's just way too firm. I don't have the support I need for when I'm lying on my side and that now is causing pain. Honestly, it doesn't feel like an expensive mattress. It feels like a futon mattress IMO.

Now, they just released a MEDIUM version of the same mattress and Mattress Firm is offering to waive the $250 and allow me to swap for the MEDIUM.

I do need to state that my salesperson is the store manager and he's been really great to work with. Great communication and he seems interested in helping me find the right thing. My concern is this. Is it possible that I'm just not a memory foam type of person? Should I give this Sealy one more shot and try the MEDIUM? I fell in love with the plush but didn't provide enough support and at that time, only PLUSH & FIRM were offered. Would you take them up on their offer or take the $250 hit and look elsewhere? I have been considering the Brooklyn Aurora Lux. I tried it and it felt nice. I have also tried the Helix Luxe Midnight and I like the pillow top feeling but not opposed to the flatness of the Sealy. Just want something to get the pain to go away. I have NEVER experienced pain from any bed before and I've slept on cheap spring mattresses before.

Sincerely,

Paul

Hi Paul!

Did you end up choosing the medium version Sealy?

I am in a similar situation but not with a Sealy Posturepedic. I do have the option to buy the medium Elite posturepedic, but I’m hesitant.

I just typed an extremely LONG answer/story/ question, that didn’t go through, prior to this. So there my short and sweet question lol.

Just returned the medium due to low back pain and lack of support in the bed. You would have an initial sink into the foam and then it felt similar to sleeping on a military cot, air mattress, or trampoline where low back support was missing.

Had an excellent, different Sealy hybrid for the past 10 years. The new high point model firm (was like a board yet had depressions after a very short time) and the medium were both disappointing!
