Hi there. Our records show that this mattress was 16.75" tall. Perhaps your recollection includes the foundation / box spring? It was common at the time for these mattresses to be sold with a foundation that was between 5" and 9" tall, so that could bring you into the range you're remembering. Either way, I have never heard of Beautyrest (or anyone else) ever making a mattress that is 22" tall -- that would be off the charts. I hope that's helpful.
