Summary: Is DreamCloud Premier a Good Mattress?

The DreamCloud Premier is the middle model in the DreamCloud lineup, sandwiched between the entry-level DreamCloud mattress and the DreamCloud Premier Rest, which is a pillowtop model.
The three mattresses have a lot in common, including the same foam-on-pocketed-spring construction. All three use the same firm coil unit, but have different amounts and arrangements of foam on top of the coil unit. We judge all three to be Firm in terms of softness, so the differences in feel are quite subtle.

Compared to the entry-level DreamCloud, the DreamCloud Premier has just a bit more memory feel. Both have a one-inch layer of it, but in the DreamCloud Premier, it's stitched into the quilt layer, and therefore closer to the top where you can feel it a bit more. Even so, this isn't a mattress that delivers that slow melting-into-the-bed sensation. both are 14" tall.

Both the DreamCloud and the DreamCloud Premier have a good amount of bounce, but the Premier version has a bit less. Your choice between the two might come down to that -- whether you prefer a little less bounce and a little more memory feel compared to the entry-level DreamCloud. Interestingly the DreamCloud website considers the Premier an "upgrade," suggesting that it has more in common with the base-model DreamCloud than not.

In terms of back support, we found the DreamCloud Premier a good choice for most back sleepers. Most stomach sleepers should also be well suited to this mattress, with the possible exception of those on the higher end of the weight scale. Side sleepers, especially lighter side sleepers, should be well suited in terms of pressure relief, though heavier side sleepers might find themselves sinking through the few inches of comfort materials and resting on the firm support coils.

The DreamCloud Premier has the look of a luxury hotel-type mattress, with blue side panels and a faux Euro-top look. Included are four sturdy and functional handles.

The company offers a 365-night trial, with full refund if you decide to return the mattress. By comparison, most online mattress companies offer 100 or 120 nights. The lifetime warranty includes full replacement in the first 10 years, and repair or replacement after that. This is also fairly unusual, as many companies offering 'lifetime' warranties pro-rate the coverage, meaning that after a certain period, you'll be offered a discount on a replacement which varies depending on years of ownership.

This is GoodBed's in-depth review of the DreamCloud Premier. We have also reviewed the entry-level model from this brand, the DreamCloud.

Bottom Line: Who is the Best Match for a DreamCloud Premier Mattress?

BEST if you:

  • Want a very tall mattress
  • Are a combination sleeper of average weight
  • Want the assurance of a long trial period
  • Like a mattress with some bounce

NOT IDEAL if you:

  • Are a heavier sleeper (especially if a side or stomach sleeper)
  • Prefer a slow, melting into the bed feeling
  • Like a mattress with a smooth top

Comfort and Feel

The “feel” characteristics of a mattress cannot be universally better or worse. They can only be more or less desirable to you, based on your personal preferences. For this reason, we call these “preference-based” attributes. Our ratings here are based on objective measurements that we apply to a consistent scale for products from all brands.

Softness

Cushioning
Depth
Slightly Shallow (4)
Memory Feel
Medium-High (6)
Bounce

Softness ( what’s this )

We classify the DreamCloud Premier as a Firm mattress. Although to the eye, the mattress looks like you might sink very deeply into it, we experienced an average amount of 'sink' and we found the cover and its quilting to be less soft than we imagined it might be. The cover does have deep puffs and channels that create undulations. If you prefer a mattress that's very smooth and flat on top, that could be a consideration for you.

Not sure what softness is best for you? Take our Mattress Match Quiz and find out.

Cushioning Depth ( what’s this )

Again, although the mattress appears thick and squishy to the eye, we found cushioning depth to be about average, but you do get a little hugged/cradled feeling. But this definitely is not a mattress that swallows you.

Responsiveness ( what's this )

There is a 1" layer of gel-infused memory foam quilted int the cover. It's a very soft foam, and it does have some of that slow-responding memory feel, where your hand print remains for a second or two after being depressed. However, there's just not that much of it. So while you do notice it if you're trying, this really isn't the kind of mattress where you're going to get that melting-into-the-bed feeling.

We also evaluated bounce, something that some people like and others don't. Due to that layer of pocket springs in the base of the bed, there is plenty of bounce.

Back Support

The key to good back support is for the mattress to support your spine in a “neutral” position while you sleep, meaning that the shape of your spine is roughly the same as when you're standing. The ability of any given mattress to do this will vary by sleeper, depending on its “fit” for your weight, body shape, and preferred sleep position(s).

The key to good back support is maintaining proper spinal alignment while you sleep. This means that the mattress should hold your spine in roughly the same position it's in when you're standing. The ability of a given mattress to do this will generally depend on your weight, sleep position, and body shape.

Here is how we break down the spinal alignment of the DreamCloud Premier mattress.

Back Sleepers:

Most back sleepers should be well supported on the DreamCloud Premier. Those on the very heavy side will find that their hips sink deeper into the upper layers of foam, but not so much that we expect it to be a problem.

Side Sleepers:

Overall we also felt most side sleepers would find enough conformance to achieve good spinal alignment. Given the firmness of the upper foam layers, lighter side sleepers may have the toughest challenge here in getting adequate conformance, but we still expect their spinal alignment to be respectable. The heaviest side sleepers should find an excellent combination of very strong underlying coils with firm but conforming layers of foam on top.

Stomach Sleepers:

Achieving good spinal alignment for stomach sleepers can often be tricky as the hips can tend to sink down too far with some mattresses. Given the many layers of foam above the coil unit, we do think this could be a modest issue, but not necessarily a dealbreaker, for heavier stomach sleepers. For lighter stomach sleepers, we expect the firmness of the foam layers to provide enough support to prevent the midsection from sinking too far into the mattress.

Pressure Relief

Inadequate pressure relief from your mattress results in “pressure points,” which can be a source of pain, soreness, loss of circulation, restlessness, and other problems. Pressure relief requirements will vary be sleeper, with side sleepers needing the most. Likewise, the amount of pressure relief that a given mattress provides will also vary by sleeper, depending on its “fit” for your weight and body shape.

Overall, we found the pressure relief offered by the DreamCloud Premier to be good, especially for those on the lighter side with average curves. There's only 3" of comfort foams plus the quilted cover to deliver pressure relief, so those on the heavier side might quickly sink through those layers and find themselves resting on the firm coil unit, which won't provide adequate pressure relief.

Performance Features

With the “features” of a mattress, performance will tend to be consistent across all sleepers – without regards to your body type or preferences. However, these attributes have differing levels of importance to each sleeper, which is why we consider them “priority-based” characteristics.

Motion Isolation ( what’s this )

With a bottle standing upright on the original DreamCloud Premier bed, we tested motion isolation by dropping the whole weight of our 200-lb. tester on it. The bottle wiggled a bit but didn't fall.

We felt that the DreamCloud Premier would be an excellent choice for those who don't want to feel a partner's movements.

Temperature ( what’s this )

If you tend to "sleep hot" this aspect may be a priority for you. Innerspring mattress are usually a good choice for air flow and heat dissipation. The deep channels in the mattress's cover allow for some air flow in our estimation. There's also gel in the memory foam layer; gel is a known conductor of heat, and here it's intended to help channel heat from the body. And lastly, this isn't a bed that lets you sink very deeply, so more of your body is exposed to the air.

We do not think sleeping hot will be an issue on the DreamCloud Premier mattress.

Edge Support ( what’s this )

The DreamCloud Premier mattress has stronger coils around the edge of the mattress to assist with edge support. Edge support both sitting and laying right on the edge was supportive and stable.

Ease of Repositioning ( what’s this )

Ease of movement was very good on the DreamCloud Premier. Our tester didn't have any trouble changing positions on this mattress. Despite the deep tufting, the mattress overall is quite firm without a lot of squishiness that could inhibit movement.

Green Features ( what’s this )

For mattress shoppers concerned with the use of natural materials, sustainable manufacturing practices or the like, we offer our subjective evaluation of any efforts taken by the company to make the mattress more green, healthy, or safe.

In the case of the DreamCloud Premier mattress, this is not a natural mattress nor does it claim to be. Its foams are petroleum-based, and because this mattress is made in China (and possibly other countries), it's harder to have confidence about its materials and their origin. Furthermore those mattresses all have to be transported a long distance to the United States, which uses resources and energy.

All of the foams used are certified to the CertiPUR-US standard, which verifies that a material has low VOC off-gassing as well as a lack of chemicals and other substances regulated by the CPSC. But this certification isn't unique; it's now standard among nearly all mainstream mattresses.

The bed does have a pocket spring unit, and theoretically, those springs would be recyclable down the road. But altogether, if a mattress that uses natural or sustainable materials is a priority for you, the DreamCloud Premier does not have a lot to offer.

Adjustable Base Compatibility ( what’s this )

We tested a prior version of the DreamCloud Premier mattress on top of our adjustable base. This is a very tall mattress, and we were curious to see how it would bend and conform to the base. Note that the company says that using an adjustable base is perfectly fine. In fact the company sells its own adjustable base.

In our tests, the mattress conformed well to the base when in its most elevated position. Especially when our tester was not sitting in it, the midsection of the mattress stayed bent and didn't try to pop up too much. However, we did note that the thick quilt bunched up a lot, and was not particularly comfortable when in a fully articulated (upright) position.

Materials & Construction

What is in a DreamCloud Premier Mattress?

Overall, we classify the DreamCloud Premier as a "Comfort Foam over Pocket Springs" construction type. It has 5 layers including the heavy quilted cover.

  • 1" gel memory foam quilted into cover
  • 1" soft comfort foam
  • 2.5" polyurethane transition foam
  • 8.5" pocket spring unit with stronger coils around edges
  • 1" polyurethane foam as a base for the coil unit

Cover

The layers of the DreamCloud Premier mattress are wrapped in a deeply quilted cover with a cashmere blend fabric. Quilted right into the cover is about an inch of gel memory foam, in contrast to the entry-level DreamCloud, where the memory foam is further down.

Dark blue quilted side panels with four sturdy, functional handles are included. A tape edge provides a crisp look, and the Premier has a faux Euro-top design.

Durability, Warranty & Value

The “value” of any mattress is both subjective and personal – reflecting how well it meets that person’s unique sleep needs and preferences, relative to their budget. As a result, our ratings in this area are focused on more objective factors like quality and longevity.

How Much Does a DreamCloud Premier Mattress Cost?

Prices shown are list prices. Remember that GoodBed keeps our site current with the best available discounts on all online mattresses, many of which are exclusive discounts for our readers.

What Are You Getting?

The DreamCloud Premier is a 14-inch foam-over-pocket spring mattress and has a 'luxury mattress' look. It has an unusual 365-night trial period (with full refund).

How Long Will the DreamCloud Premier Mattress Last?

When it comes to estimating the comfort lifespan of a mattress, we tend to use foam density as our best, albeit imperfect, predictor of how long a foam will retain its shape and resiliency. Of the materials used, we would have the most concerns about the gel memory foam layer, but with only 1" of it quilted into the cover, it's unlikely to see much compression. Because the mattress is made overseas, we are less confident in overall quality than we are of beds made in the United States and Canada. Even so, we did not observe any obvious red flags that would lead us to believe this mattress will break down any faster than any other.

Overall Value

If you want a hotel-style mattress that's very tall, with deep tufting and a luxurious look, we feel the DreamCloud Premier presents a good value, especially compared to similar mattresses you might see in a luxury bedding shop or a department store, where such a mattress might cost three times more. It's also worth noting that sales and discounts (including GoodBed discounts) bring the total price quite a lot lower than list price on the company website, making it an even better value. This is a mattress you will not be able to try before you buy, but a very long trial period should provide peace of  mind. Assuming the mattress meets your personal preferences and criteria, we do think it's one you should consider.

Warranty

  • Warranty Length: Lifetime
  • Indentation Coverage: 1.5” and above

One of the biggest, if not THE biggest complaints about any mattress from consumers regards body impressions — the inability of a mattress to spring back, eventually creating a low spot/sinkhole in the mattress. As such, mattress warranties all contain a term defining how big a sag or ‘body impression’ (measured when no one is on the mattress) is considered a defect, and thus covered under the warranty. The industry standard for mattresses is generally between ¾” and 1.5”. DreamCloud has chosen to cover indentations that meet or exceed 1.5”. Practically speaking, that means any softening or sagging would need to be at least that deep before the warranty would offer you protection.

For the first 10 years of ownership, the company will replace your mattress with a new one if you have a valid warranty claim. After 10 years, the company will repair or replace the bed, at their discretion, and consumers must pay shipping both ways ($50 each way). If the warranty claim is valid, the shipping fees will be refunded.

See: DreamCloud warranty policy.

Other Factors to Consider

Delivery

  • Free delivery to door in the continental United States
  • White glove option: $149

DreamCloud Premier includes free delivery, which is not particularly unusual among its competitors. A white-glove service is available at additional cost ($149) that includes in-room setup and removal of the packaging. They'll also remove your old bedding for an additional $20 (note that in some areas there are state- and/or locally mandated charges for local disposal). There is a $150 shipping charge to Alaska and Hawaii.

Returns

  • 365-day trial period
  • Full refund, including free pickup within trial period

DreamCloud includes a 365-day trial period, with full refund should you decide to return the mattress. The company does ask that you try the mattress for 30 days prior to initiating a return. See: DreamCloud mattress return policy
