Hi there — Thanks for your question. Flipping a mattress is exactly what you’re imagining. You’re flipping it over like a pancake. It used to be that all mattresses were flippable. Nowadays though, most mattresses are not designed to be flipped, meaning that the underside of the mattress is not actually a sleep surface, so you can only sleep on the one side. Rotating a mattress means just turning it, without flipping it. After rotating 180 degrees, for example, the surface that was under your head would now be under your feet. This is another way to even out the wear on a mattress, though certainly not as effective im that regard as flipping. I hope that’s helpful.
