Broken box spring - can I still use it?

There is a small broken section that starts about 10in from the side and 1.5ft down from the top of my full-size box spring. The section's about 1x1ft and seems to be recessed an inch or so. Could I still use the box spring without impacting my mattress/back support if I move the damaged section to be underneath my feet instead of my shoulders? I was thinking I could even flip the whole thing over but wasn't sure about the overall physics, thinking this could maybe cause the whole box spring to be misaligned.

If not, is there an affordable (<$50) solution, like placing wood slats over top of it?

Do I need to just get a new box spring altogether?
