Is it normal for a mattress edge to sag in showroom display models?

I like the feel of the Simmons Beautyrest Black Alexia Extra Firm but I have noticed that on every one I have looked at in Sears and Macy's the outside edge is lower (sags) about midway down the length of the bed. They were all put on the floor in 2014. Am I seeing a defect or is there something else going on?

One Answer:

Hi Leonard -- No, I am afraid this is not normal. You are either seeing defective models or ones that did not have particularly strong edge support to begin with.

Midway along the outside edge is where customers would be most likely to sit on the bed to test it out. However, this activity should not be enough to cause noticeable sagging on the edge during the time that these models were on the sales floor.
