How do we keep our split king mattress from separating in the middle?

My husband bought a split king bed and loves it. However, keeping it from sliding apart is an issue when you want to meet in the middle!! Does anyone have a solution for keeping their split king mattress together?

Hi Kim, Bed Bath & Beyond has what you want at about $15.00

What do I ask for at Bed Bath & Beyond? Thanks, Heather

I am having the same problem. I'm wondering if I make an elastic band to loop them together at the head and foot, will they still be able to move independently enough to adjust to one head raised and the other one not. I wish that I had never bought this bed. We are miserable.

Hello,

I just fixed this problem on my bed with two 5 inch x 18 inch 3/4 inch thick boards.

I drilled two 2 and 1/8 inch holes in them one foot apart (Your frame legs may be closer or further apart). I lifted the bed and placed one leg from each frame in the holes of one board, and repeated the process on the other end of the bed.

The center legs of the bed can no longer separate and the frames are held tightly together.

Kim, you can always try some straps up at the head and foot as long as it not an adjustable base on each side.

Hi Kim,

If the mattresses are sliding on the adjustable bases and coming apart, try some abbrasive shelf liner from Lowes or Home Depot. That will keep the matts from sliding across the base. If the bases are moving themselves, then you'll need to talk to the place your husband shopped at to see if there are straps or locking mechanism for the bases.

Depending on the brand of the adjustable foundation, I know of at least one manufacturer that offers "straps" to solve just that problem. Check with your retailer, or the manufacturer's web site, or there should be a customer service phone number in the adjustable base's owner's manual to their customer service.

If the base isn't the issue, you might try something to keep the mattresses from sliding on the base, I have heard that Rubbermaid drawer rubber, a thin rubber piece, normally designed for kitchen drawers, might work.

Hope that helps.

I have the same problem with our split bed. His side of the mattress slides off and won't keep the sheets on. I've tried a Velcro strap across both of our mattresses and while it does keep them together better you can feel the strap thru the sheet and makes it uncomfortable. I wish we had never bought this particular bed. We've had sleep number for years but this one I do not like!

Hi Melonie -- It sounds like your mattresses are sliding around a lot on their foundations / platform. Another solution you may want to consider is a non-slip pad that you can put under the mattress. Here is one you can get on Amazon -- you can either buy 1 king-size or 2 twin-size ones:

If you are still feeling the crack between them even after they are stabilized, you can also consider adding a foam bed bridge that goes down the middle. Here is one you can get on Amazon:

I hope that helps.

Try using heavy duty zip ties to strap the two inside legs at the head at the top of the legs and repeat with the two inside legs at the foot.

Kim- I get your problem, we have the same and I didn't see the answer here (except what does BB&B have for $15???) - anyway, the problem is NOT: 1) the frames coming apart, NOR 2) the mattresses sliding on their own The problem is - when there is "meeting in the middle" of a bit of top force helping to push them apart - HOW do you get them to stay together??? We are literally going to have to give up our split king that we waited and saved years for just to be able to "sleep" together again - It's even difficult to simply cuddle in the middle of this be PLEASE help us save our bed!

Hi Susan -- Did you see the suggestion we left for Melonie above? If your mattresses are sliding on their foundations / platform, you may want to consider a non-slip pad that you can put under the mattress. Here is one you can get on Amazon -- for a split king, you can buy 2 twin-size ones:

I hope that helps.

After trying many things, including straps that hold the mattresses and stuffing in between, we found something simple that keeps the bases together... packing tape wrapped around the legs. Cheap and easy. The mattresses hold together now except for a small gap that isn't a problem for all things that matter ;-)
