TEMPUR-ProAdapt Mattresses Overview

Last updated on June 3, 2024

GoodBed helps you find the best mattress for you, whether online or in a local store. If you choose to buy a product through the links on this site, we earn a small referral fee that supports our work at no cost to you. Here's more info about how it all works.

The updated TEMPUR-ProAdapt Collection consists of four mattresses - three all-foam models and a hybrid mattress with pocket springs. Here's our quick take on these relative to the legacy ProAdapt Collection.

Note: This is not a review. This is our plain-English explanation and overview of the updated TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt Collection, which was released in March 2024 (replacing the original version, which was released in 2018). Summary: TEMPUR-ProAdapt Mattress Line

New to 2024, Tempur-Pedic’s new TEMPUR-ProAdapt Collection makes subtle changes to update the comfort and support of Tempur-Pedic’s best-selling ProAdapt Collection. There are four total models in the new ProAdapt Collection - the ProAdapt Soft, the ProAdapt Medium, the ProAdapt Medium Hybrid, and the ProAdapt Firm. These build on the general feel of the Adapt Collection, but cover a wider range of firmnesses and have a new formulation of memory foam designed to provide more pressure relief.

Also know that some stores are calling this the ProAdapt "2.0" Collection. However, Tempur-Pedic is not doing this, so we’ve decided to omit the "2.0" and use the terminology that is present on their website.

Materials and Construction

Cover

Much like the Adapt Collection, the new ProAdapt Collection uses a stretch knit cover with inherent cool-to-the–touch qualities. This sense of surface coolness is created with the use of a high-tech yarn with both a high density and high heat capacity. These fibers work on a molecular level to pull heat away from a sleeper and feel cool-to-the-touch. The analogy we like to use to explain this is a marble surface. Consider how marble compares in “coolness” to something that is lower density like a wooden table. This the same sense of immediate coolness that you’ll feel on the soft knit cover.

However, unlike with the Adapt Collection, the ProAdapt Collection’s cover is fully removable AND washable. This is a rather unique feature that we don’t see on many mattresses.

Comfort Layers

The ProAdapt Collection uses two types of memory foam.

The first is Tempur-Pedic’s classic TEMPUR-Material. Different models appear to use slightly different variations on this formula (additionally some of these layers are ventilated/perforated to provide extra airflow), but this foam has been a mainstay in Tempur-Pedic’s lineup for years.

The second is one of Tempur-Pedic’s most advanced memory foams. This is appropriately called “Advanced Relief Material,” and this is really what you’re getting when you step up from the regular Adapt Collection. Tempur-Pedic advertises that this provides up to 20% more pressure relief than traditional TEMPUR-Material. In our opinion, this is significant. The ProAdapt models were some of Tempur-Pedic’s best-sellers in the last generation, and we think much of that success was due to the Advanced Relief Material (though this had a slightly different name in the last generation in "APR Material").

We expect that both the classic TEMPUR-Material and Advanced Relief Material will be durable and long-lasting. Based on our own internal metrics, we’d categorize these as “HD" and "UHD" Memory Foams, with the HD meaning High Density and the UHD meaning Ultra High Density. For those unaware - foam density is strongly correlated with long-term performance. We've recently developed our own metrics for determining what qualifies as an HD and UHD memory foam, and anything that gets one of these titles is expected to be a "best of the best" kind of memory foam.

Support Layers

The ProAdapt Collection uses two types of support systems.

On their foam models, they use Tempur-Pedic’s tried-and-true double layer of poly foam. These poly foam layers vary slightly between the different all-foam models and help create the very different feel characteristics of these mattresses. The ProAdapt Medium Hybrid, however, uses the same system of densely-packed, high-quality pocket springs that we see on the Adapt Medium Hybrid. These pocket springs are a relatively high-gauge (re: a thinner wire), but have a very high overall coil count.

Softness and Feel

The ProAdapt collection delivers a wide range of comfort with excellent pressure-relief. In terms of overall softness, we gave the ProAdapt Soft a 7 (Very Soft) and the ProAdapt Firm a 1 (Ultra Firm). We thought both the ProAdapt Medium and ProAdapt Medium Hybrid were around a general Medium. We gave the all-foam ProAdapt Medium a 4 (Medium Firm) and the ProAdapt Medium Hybrid a 6 (Medium Soft).

We also thought that all of the ProAdapt models had a LOT of memory feel. This is a metric that we use to gauge the “slow-melting” sensation and delayed recovery that is characteristic of memory foam. We gave all of these models an 8, which is nearly the highest score possible on our scale.

Otherwise, the most significant difference between the models was found in terms of Bounce. We thought the Hybrid had a moderate amount of Bounce at around a 5, while the all-foam models had almost no Bounce whatsoever.

Model Softness Memory Feel
ProAdapt Soft Soft (7) Very High (8)
ProAdapt Medium Medium Firm (4) Very High (8)
ProAdapt Medium Hybrid Medium Soft (6) Very High (8)
ProAdapt Firm Ultra Firm (1) Very High (8)

(The metrics shown here are based on the GoodBed Rating Scale, which is standardized across all brands using objective measurements, and therefore may differ from the manufacturer’s stated softness levels.)

Who We Think These Are Best For

The ProAdapt models have historically been Tempur-Pedic’s bestsellers, and we can see why. These offer a wide range of firmnesses and exceptional pressure relief with some of Tempur-Pedic’s most advanced foams. We think these are a reasonable option for most sleepers, and are especially worth trying if you know you like memory foam. The Medium and Medium Hybrid should work well for all sleeping positions, and the Soft and Firm do a good job of covering the extremes in terms of soft and firm.

Much like with the Adapt models, the only people we’d steer away from the ProAdapt Collection would be people that dislike memory foam. All of the ProAdapt models have a lot of memory feel, and if you dislike that “slow-melting” sensation or find it difficult to reposition on a memory foam mattress, then these might not be the best options for you. However, even if you’d had a bad experience in the past you might still give these a try. Memory foam has advanced considerably in the last few years, and the ProAdapt Medium Hybrid has a lot more bounce and recovery than you might expect.

Warranty

  • Warranty Length: 10 years
  • Indentation Coverage: 3/4” and above

One of the biggest, if not THE biggest complaints about any mattress from consumers regards body impressions—the inability of a mattress to spring back, eventually creating a low spot/sinkhole in the mattress. As such, mattress warranties all contain a term defining how big a sag or ‘body impression’ (measured when no one is on the mattress) is considered a defect, and thus covered under the warranty. The industry standard for mattresses is generally between ¾” and 1.5”. Tempur-Pedic has chosen to cover indentations that meet or exceed 3/4”. Practically speaking, that means any softening or sagging would need to be at least that deep before the warranty would offer you protection.
