The Tempur-Adapt from Tempur-Pedic consists of two mattresses, an all-foam bed and a hybrid bed, both with a new cooling cover. Here's our quick take on these additions to the Tempur-pedic lineup.

Note: This is not a review. This is our plain-English explanation and overview of the Tempur-Adapt mattress collection from Tempur-Pedic. Also see our coverage of the more expensive Tempur-ProAdapt collection, along with our overview of the 2017 Tempur-Pedic mattress lineup, many of which are still available.

Summary: Tempur-Adapt Mattress Line

Tempur-pedic's Tempur-Adapt bed shares many of the same materials as the Tempur-Cloud Supreme, which it replaces, but at a lower price point. There are two mattresses in the Tempur-Adapt line, the Medium and the Medium Hybrid. The Medium is an all-foam bed, while the Medium Hybrid replaces a polyurethane foam support core with a pocketed coil unit.

New Cooling Cover

The use of cooling materials is a new-ish trend among mattresses. Typically, we see "phase change" materials included as a coating on a mattress's cover that makes it feel cool to the touch. Tempur-Pedic takes a different approach with the new covers on the Tempur-Adapt and Tempur-ProAdapt mattresses. Woven into the fabric are special high-density fibers that by their very nature feel cool to the touch. (Think about how a high density material like marble feels cooler than low-density material like wood.). Since the fiber is woven in, it can't wash off or diminish over time. It's an innovative approach, and compared to Tempur-Pedic's previous mattress covers, it feels noticeably cool to the touch.

The Tempur-Adapt and Tempur-ProAdapt lines both use the cooling cover. On the ProAdapt mattresses, the cover zips off and can be machine washed, while it is non-removable on the Tempur-Adapt.

Materials and Construction

Tempur-Pedic, of course, is known for memory foam. Both of the Tempur-Adapt mattresses feature a top comfort layer of the company's Tempur-ES foam which it's been using in its other mattresses. This is a soft, slow responding foam that has plenty of that memory feel.

Under the Tempur-ES foam, the Medium version of the Tempur-Adapt has a layer of transition foam, plus a thick block of standard polyurethane support foam. For the Medium Hybrid version, the support foam is replaced with a pocketed coil unit.

Both of the Tempur-Adapt mattresses are 11" tall.

Softness and Feel

Both the Medium and the Medium Hybrid Tempur-Adapt mattresses, in our view, are firmer mattresses. On our scale, we would call both a Medium Firm, with the hybrid version just slightly softer. If you prefer a firm mattress, but do like a softer top, the Tempur-Adapt might be worth a look.

The big difference between the two models is in bounce. The all-foam Medium version has very little of it, while the hybrid version has some healthy bounce, owning to the coil unit below.

Other Factors

Delivery

Tempur-Pedic mattresses are available in many stores, whose delivery and return policies will vary. For orders placed online directly through Tempur-Pedic, free white-glove delivery is included, meaning movers will unpack and set up the mattress in the room of your choice, and removing any packaging materials.

Returns

  • 90-night trial period
  • Full refund less $175 pickup fee

For orders placed online, Tempur-Pedic offers a 90-night trial period, with at least a 30 day required trial. Should you wish to return the mattress, a $175 return pickup and shipping fee will apply.

Warranty

  • Warranty Length: 10 years
  • Indentation Coverage: 3/4” and above

One of the biggest, if not THE biggest complaints about any mattress from consumers regards body impressions—the inability of a mattress to spring back, eventually creating a low spot/sinkhole in the mattress. As such, mattress warranties all contain a term defining how big a sag or ‘body impression’ (measured when no one is on the mattress) is considered a defect, and thus covered under the warranty. The industry standard for mattresses is generally between ¾” and 1.5”. Tempur-Pedic has chosen to cover indentations that meet or exceed 3/4”. Practically speaking, that means any softening or sagging would need to be at least that deep before the warranty would offer you protection.
