Note: This is our plain-English explanation and overview of Serta's new Perfect Sleeper Pro line of mattresses.

Summary: Serta Perfect Sleeper Pro Lineup

The Perfect Sleeper Pro line represents a new entry in Serta’s greater collection. Unlike the other Perfect Sleeper models, all of these new Pro mattresses use some amount of latex in their comfort layers. In addition to this, they also have a high coil-count and five-zone pocket spring unit. In other words, these are some of the first latex “hybrid” mattresses from one of the biggest names in the industry.

Note: the Perfect Sleeper Pro line can be distinguished from the adjacent Perfect Sleeper X line by its use of latex. Instead of latex, the Perfect Sleeper X line uses memory foam in its comfort layers.

Shared Features across the Perfect Sleeper Pro Line

Cover

Every model in the Perfect Sleeper Pro line has a quilted cover in a deep blue and white colorway. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, a quilted cover is the classic type of mattress cover that typically has some amount of comfort foam or fiber quilted within the fabric itself. In addition to this, all of the Perfect Pro mattresses are made with Serta’s CoolFeel Pro fabric. This is a fabric blend made with polyethylene fibers that have inherent cool-to-the-touch qualities. These fibers create a noticeable and pleasant coolness while you’re falling asleep, although we find that this effect typically does not last the course of an entire night.

Zoned Latex

All of the new Perfect Sleeper Pro models use Dunlop latex in their comfort layers. If you’re unfamiliar with latex in mattresses, this is a kind of foam made with natural or synthetic rubber known for its exceptional quality and lasting durability. It also feels slightly bouncier and more resilient than other kinds of foams. This sense of liveliness can help with repositioning and support.

Further, the latex layers in these mattresses are zoned to match the underlying pocket spring. These zones are created by varying the size of the pincore holes in the latex itself to yield a five-zone pattern.. We thought that this added a subtle, but noticeable contour to these mattresses. The combined effect is one of gentle reinforcement at the waist and lumbar area whilst still allowing for a relaxed feel at the shoulder.

In addition to the zoning, most of these models use graphite-infused for better heat mitigation. Some amount of this graphite-infused latex is present in every model except for the Hampton Extra Firm.

Coil Unit

All of the mattresses in the Perfect Sleeper Pro line use the same coil unit. There is no variation between the coils used in the firm models versus the plush ones, as is sometimes the case within Serta collections. This is a five-zone “Quad Coil” design that builds on the same style of zoning as the latex layers above. It’s also built in a way that’s slightly different from most other pocket spring designs.

Most notably, the Perfect Sleeper Pro Quad Coil is made without a scrim sheet. This is a layer of a fabric that’s typically laminated to the top of a pocket spring unit to help maintain the structural integrity of the unit. However, this fabric can also limit the ability of a given coil unit to conform to your body. The Quad Coil, on the other hand, is stable without a scrim sheet and therefore allows for more conformance and more flexible support. It also comes in a rather high coil count at around 1000 plus coils per Queen model.

Perfect Sleeper Pro Models

Level One

There are two models in the Perfect Sleeper Pro Level One collection - the Hampton Extra Firm and the Kensington Medium. Each of these models uses two inches of latex in the comfort layers. Of note, the Hampton Extra Firm does not use graphite-infused latex, which is found in all other models in this line.

Model Softness Cushioning Depth
Hampton Extra Firm Firm Very Shallow
Kensington Medium Medium Medium

Level Two

There are three models in the Serta Perfect Sleeper Pro Level Two collection - the Geneva Firm, the Dublin Medium, and the Edinburgh Plush Pillow Top.

Each of these models adds an additional inch of latex to the same underlying pocket spring unit. In addition to this, the Edinburgh Plush Pillow Top model also uses an inch of Serta’s Cool Twist Gel foam in the transition layer to create a softer feel.

Model Softness Cushioning Depth
Geneva Firm Firm Shallow
Dublin Medium Medium Medium
Edinburgh Plush Pillow Top Soft Slightly Deep

Level Three

Finally, there are two models in the Level Three collection - the New Paris Medium and the Valais Plush Pillow Top. These add another inch of latex for a total of four overall inches. We thought that these had the most conformance in the Perfect Sleeper Pro line.

New Paris Medium Medium-Firm Medium
Valais Plush Pillow Top Medium-Soft Slightly Deep

Who We Think These Are Best For

The Perfect Sleeper Pro mattresses are an interesting new development in the mattress industry. This is possibly the first time we’ve seen a major brand go “all-in” on latex and pocket spring mattresses. Moreover, we think that they’ve designed these in a way that maximizes the benefits of latex while keeping the more “traditional” feel of a quilted mattress.

We think that these are worth considering for most sleepers, and are particularly good options for those that prioritize lasting comfort and durability. Latex has long-held a reputation as one of the most durable materials in the industry. The use of latex in these models means that they’re likely to outlast many (if not most) other mattresses on the market. In addition to this, the zoned features might appeal to people that have trouble maintaining alignment on other mattresses and/or carry more weight around their waist or midsection.

The only people we’d caution regarding the Perfect Sleeper Pro line would be those that already know they don’t like latex or don’t like zoned coil units. The coil unit here is a five-zone coil, which might create issues for people that don’t like zoning. However, even in these cases, we think that the feel of the latex and zoning are relatively subtle and effectively blended with the more traditional quilt foams above. The combined effect is one of gentle resilience and lumbar support with a contour that matches your body’s curves. We should also note that if you want a similar mattress without latex, then the adjacent Perfect Sleeper X line is available with memory foam.
