Note: This is not a review. This is our plain-English explanation and overview of the Sealy Posturepedic Plus collection of hybrid mattresses. Also see our overview of entire Sealy lineup, as well as coverage of the traditional innerspring mattresses and all-foam mattresses that are part of this same line.

If you’d prefer to watch rather than read, watch our Sealy Posturepedic Plus Hybrid Mattresses Overview video.

Sealy Posturepedic Plus Hybrid Mattresses

The Posturepedic Plus collection from Sealy includes three series: a line of 10 innerspring mattresses (discussed here) plus a lineup of four memory foam mattresses (covered here) and another four hybrid mattresses, discussed in this article.

It's worth noting that the memory foam mattresses and the hybrid mattresses in this collection use the same names. For example, there is an Albany Firm in the memory foam series, and an Albany Medium in the hybrid series. There's a High Point Ultra Soft in the memory foam series, along with a corresponding High Point Firm and a High Point Soft in the hybrid series.

Here, we are looking at the five hybrid mattresses, which have most of the same features. Differences in individual models come down to feel and how much "sink" -- what we call cushioning depth -- you can expect with each.

Sealy Posturepedic Plus Series

Pocket Spring Support Unit

All of the Sealy Posturepedic Plus hybrid mattresses have a high coil-count unit with at least 1,072 encased coils (queen size). With this type of coil unit, we typically expect excellent motion isolation, while also providing some bounce to the bed.

All of the coil units are bordered by what Sealy calls their DuraFlex Pro Edge System. This consists of a double-row of narrow-diameter firm coils with perforated fabric to promote air flow.

Memory Foam

All five of these mattresses have a minimum of 1.5" of total memory foam. The memory foam closest to the body is Sealy's ComfortSense memory foam, the company's highest-quality foam. The amount of the ComfortSense foam varies depending on the mattress model, but all of the hybrid mattresses have some of it.

Adjustable Base Compatibility

All of the Posturepedic Plus hybrid mattresses are compatible with adjustable bases.

Mattress Covers

And finally, all models in the Plus Hybrid collection feature cooling high-density polyethylene fibers in the covers. These are special fibers woven into the the cover that can give it a subtle cool-to-the-touch property.

The covers are all the same charcoal color, which helps distinguish them from the innerspring mattresses in the Posturepedic Plus collection. The covers are very stretchy--made to stretch and conform to your body as the memory foam warms and collapses beneath you.

The covers also feature Sealy's SurfaceGuard, an anti-microbial treatment intended to repel bacteria and allergens.

Sealy Posturepedic Plus Series

Sealy Posturepedic Plus Hybrid Albany Medium

The Albany Medium is a 13" mattress. (The all-foam Posturepedic Plus series includes a Firm and a Soft Albany mattress.)

The Albany Medium features Sealy's 1,072-coil (queen size) Response Pro HD coil unit. Topping the coil unit is 1.5" of Sealy's premium ComfortSense Memory Foam.

Sealy calls this mattress a Medium. On our scale, we found it to be a bit firmer than that, more of a Medium Firm.

The ComfortSense foam is a slow-responding memory foam, meaning it takes a minute or two for the memory foam to warm and fully 'sink' with your body, but this mattress does not have that much of it, so you only get a little of that "melting into the bed" sensation that's a hallmark of memory foam. You do sink into this mattress more than you might expect from a firmer mattress, however.

There is some bounce to this mattress, but it's a deep bounce that we really only felt when plopping down on the bed. We did not observe any bounce at the surface or mid-level as you might feel when moving around on the mattress.

Hybrid Albany Medium 13" Medium Firm $1,699

Sealy Posturepedic Plus Series

Sealy Posturepedic Plus Hybrid Brenham Firm and Soft

The 13.5" Brenham Firm mattress in the Posturepedic Plus Hybrid collection features 2.5" of Sealy's ComfortSense foam on top of a 1,090 coil support unit. This coil unit is a slight upgrade from the one in the Albany hybrid in that it features a denser coil arrangement in the central third of the bed to support the heaviest part of your body (your hips).

We found this mattress to have quite a bit more memory feel than the Albany Hybrid, even though overall it felt firmer. There's less bounce, however, not surprising since there's more foam on top of the springs.

The Posturepedic Plus Hybrid Brenham Soft has the same coil unit as the firm version, but it has 3" of the ComfortSense memory foam along with substantially more cushioning depth, giving you more of a feeling of being hugged or cradled by your mattress. While Sealy calls this a "Soft", and it is indeed softer than the Brenham Firm, we still found it to be more of a Medium. Overall, however, it is the softest of the Posturepedic Plus Hybrid mattresses.

Hybrid Brenham Firm 13.5" Firm $1,999

Sealy Posturepedic Plus Series

Sealy Posturepedic Plus Hybrid High Point Firm and Soft

The top end of the Plus foam series is the High Point Firm and Soft.

This mattress has more memory foam -- a total of 3.5"of ComfortSense Memory Foam -- and also adds two additional cooling features.

First, the cover includes a larger percentage of those high-density cooling polyethylene fibers compared to the Albany and the Brenham. And Sealy also adds a phase-change treatment to the top of the ComfortSense foam. This is a layer of what could be described as tiny wax beads that stay cool until your body warms them up. The intention is to keep you cooler while you fall asleep.

Both mattresses use the same 1,090-coil unit found in the Brenham hybrid mattresses with the same higher-density coil arrangement in the lumbar area. Again, this is a subtle upgrade from the base 1072-coil unit found in the Albany.

The Firm version has a lot of softness right at the surface, but not as much conformance and cushioning as the Brenham Soft. It does have similar memory feel and bounce. Overall, we judged the High Point Firm a Medium on our scale.

Interestingly, the High Point Soft isn't anywhere near a soft on our scale -- it's actually more firm than the High Point Firm. It does, however, have the most "ooey-gooey" memory feel and conformance -- you really sink deeply into the mattress once your body warms its memory foam. Because of all the squishy foam, the High Point Soft also has the least amount of bounce.

Other Factors

Delivery and Returns

  • Varies by store

Sealy mattresses are sold in mattress stores and department stores. You cannot buy them online directly through the Sealy website, but you may can find them from other online stores.

Delivery and returns policies will vary widely depending on where you buy your mattress.

Warranty

  • Varies by model

Warranty information for each mattress is included on the mattress "Law Label" at the store, and vary depending on the model. Be sure to talk to your salesperson about warranty terms, and particularly about the body impression warranty, which will tell you how much of a permanent depression may form to be covered under warranty. For these Sealy Hybrid mattresses, it's 3/4" -- that's a very good indentation warranty, as many hybrid mattresses only warrant indentations greater than 1.5" or more.
