Note: This is not a review. This is our plain-English explanation and overview of the Sealy Conform collection of foam and memory foam mattresses. Also see our overview of the Sealy Response Mattresses (the company's innerspring beds), and the Sealy Hybrid collection, which combines aspects of both. These are all traditionally sold beds from stores and retailers. Sealy also has a "bed in a box" called the Cocoon by Sealy, which we have reviewed as well.

If you’d prefer to watch rather than read, see our Sealy Mattresses Overview video.

Sealy Conform Mattresses: Shared Features

There are 8 mattresses in Sealy's Conform collection. These are Sealy's all-foam mattresses, which are further separated into three levels: Essential, Performance, and Premium. (It's worth noting that these three levels exist in the other Sealy mattress collections as well.) As you might expect, features and cost go up as you progress through the collection.

Throughout the collection, you'll find a range of foams and memory foams. All models have standard polyurethane foam as a support base (higher end models include gel flecks in the support foam) topped by a variety of memory foams, sometimes in combination.

Posturepedic Technology

When you think of Sealy mattresses as a brand, you likely automatically also think "posturepedic" and for many years, 'Sealy Posturepedic' was a collection of mattresses.

Today, however, Sealy no longer uses 'Posturepedic' to designate mattress models. Now, the company uses the term Posturepedic Technology to denote a class of features. The actual features differ depending on the mattress, and some of the entry-level beds don't include it at all, but when you do see a mattress advertised with 'Posturepedic Technology' it means there's some kind of zoned-support feature, where there's something 'extra' in the middle third of the mattress. Intended to better support the hip area (the heaviest part of your body), these features are meant to enhance back support.

For certain mattresses in the Conform line, the Posturepedic Technology is a sheet of memory foam with varying density; at the head and foot of the bed, holes are punched through the foam to make it softer, while in the middle third, it remains full-density, intended to provide firmer support under the hip area.

Memory Foams and Cooling

All of the Conform mattresses include some amount of memory foam. In the firmer models, you'll find less of it, while the plush versions have more. The three beds in the Essential class have a basic, two-layer construction, with gel-infused polyurethane support foam topped with Sealy's "ComfortSense" gel memory foam. As you move up the line, you'll also see "SealyChill" memory foam with phase-change material.

Memory foam has long had a reputation for sleeping hot, and manufacturers have tried various innovations to combat heat retention. For the Sealy Conform models, gel is included in the memory foams; gel is a known conductor of heat and it's meant to help draw heat from the body.

The SealyChill memory foam includes phase-change material (only some models include this particular foam). Phase-change treatments can be thought of as tiny wax beads that feel cool to the touch until your body warms them. The intention is to keep you cooler until you fall asleep. In the Premium versions in the Conform collection, Sealy also includes phase-change material in the cover, and we did think it felt noticeably cool to the touch.

Adjustable Base Compatibility

Since the Sealy Conform mattresses are made entirely of foam, they are safe to use on an adjustable base. That's not the case with all Sealy mattresses in general, so be sure to double check if that feature is important to you.

Let's take a closer look at the Sealy Conform models and how they compare to each other.

Sealy Conform Essential

There are three models in Sealy's entry-level all-foam line. Both are made of two layers of foam: a block of polyurethane gel foam for support, under a layer of gel memory foam. The Firm version has 1.5" of gel memory foam, the Cushion Firm has 2" and the Plush has 2.5" of the same Sealy ComfortSense gel memory foam.

Each is correspondingly tall, with a bump in price.

The difference between the three is more about feel than features, with less cushioning and conformance in the firmer version and more 'sink' and conformance in the plush.

Sealy Conform Mattress Height Queen-size
Essential Firm 9" $499
Essential Cushion Firm 10" $699
Essential Plush 11" $899

Sealy Conform Performance

The next models up in the Sealy Conform line are a significant upgrade from the Essential mattresses.

All have Posturepedic Technology, which in the Conform models amounts to higher density foam in the middle third of the bed, and softer at the head and foot. This was something we could definitely feel. And all have a feature called "Moisture Protect," a stretch cover with moisture-wicking properties.

You're getting more premium comfort foams compared to the Essential mattresses, including SealyChill gel memory foam with added phase-change material. Differences between the three beds are in feel rather than features. The more plush models have more slow-responding foams than the firmer versions, so your choice depends on how much you enjoy that 'sink in' feeling.

Performance Firm 10" $1,099
Performance Cushion Firm 11" $1,299
Performance Plush 12" $1,599

Sealy Conform Edge Support

Sealy Conform Premium

There are 2 models in the highest-end part of the Response collection.

These include the same Posturepedic Technology as the Performance models (denser memory foam in the middle third of the bed). They both have the moisture-wicking stretch cover, but additionally have phase-change material in the cover as well as the memory foam. We thought the cover did feel notably cool to the touch compared to covers without the phase-change material.

The more plush version has a lot of memory foam -- about 7" of it total, so you get a lot of that slow responding memory foam feel. The firm version has 5" of memory foam, so still a notable amount of that slow-response feel.

The Premium mattresses in the Conform collection also have a foam edge support -- denser/firmer foam around the perimeter of the bed to improve edge support.

Premium Plush 13" $2,499

Other Factors

Delivery and Returns

  • Varies by store

Sealy mattresses are sold in mattress stores and department stores. You cannot buy them online directly through the Sealy website, but you may be able to find them from other online stores.

Delivery and returns policies will vary widely depending on where you buy your mattress.

Warranty

  • Varies by model

Warranty information for each mattress is included on the mattress "Law Label" at the store, and vary depending on the model. Be sure to talk to your salesperson about warranty terms, and particularly about the body impression warranty, which will tell you how much of a permanent depression may form to be covered under warranty. For these Sealy memory foam mattresses, it's 3/4," which is the industry standard for foam beds.

To obtain warranty service, you will be responsible for shipping the mattress back to the company or retailer, and some warranties are pro-rated, meaning you may only be entitled to partial credit, dependent on years of ownership. See: Sealy warranty info
