Beautyrest Harmony Quilted Mattresses
The Beautyrest Harmony line of mattresses is now in its second generation, redesigned for the 2023-2024 model year. As before, there are two collections in the line: The Harmony and Harmony Lux mattresses. And within those two collections, there are traditional-feeling quilted mattresses, which we cover here, as well as hybrid versions, which include more memory foam and are covered in a separate review.
Between the Harmony and Harmony Lux mattresses, there are about 15 total models. Then within each series, there are two levels or classes. On the Beautyrest website, as well as at some retailers like Macy's, you'll see models in the Harmony quilted collection with "Bay" in the names, while Harmony Lux models often have the word 'Island" in the model names.
Here, we discuss the Harmony Quilted models. Also see our page on the Harmony Lux Quilted mattresses, which have upgraded memory foams, coils units and cooling features.
You can also find Hybrid mattresses in the Harmony and Harmony Lux collections. These mattresses have a lot in common with the quilted versions covered here, but the Hybrid Beautyrest mattresses have more memory foam, and more "memory feel," that slow, melting into the bed feeling that we associate with memory foam.
In contrast, the quilted models discussed here have very little memory foam, and hardly any of that slow-responding memory feel.

The mattresses in the Beautyrest Harmony quilted collection have similar construction and materials.
Sustainable fibers in mattress covers
The Beautyrest Harmony quilted mattresses share a unique cover that features polyester fibers made from recycled water bottles. A company named Seaqual makes the fibers from plastic waste collected at sea by fishermen. The company buys the plastic from them, essentially paying them to help clean plastic from oceans and waterways.
Once cleaned, the plastic is made first into pellets, then spun into a fiber that can be used to make fabric.
Each queen-size mattress cover recycles the equivalent of 50 water bottles. You can read more about the Beautyrest/Seaqual partnership on the Harmony page of the Beautyrest website.

Pocketed coil units
All of the Harmony quilted models have an 8" pocketed coil support unit with about 875 coils (queen size), and a standard fabric-pocketed spring. Differences in mattress feel and cushioning are achieved by using different types of wire/coil. For example, on the plush models, a springier, softer coil is used, while the firmer mattresses use a stiffer/firmer coil.
note that when you step up to the Harmony Lux versions, you get a new coil as well, Beautyrest's T2 coil, which is made of two wires twisted together for a stronger coil
All of these Beautyrest coil units have a 4" foam perimeter going all the way around the mattress to assist with edge support.
Foams and memory foams
The mattresses in the Harmony collection include a small amount of Beautyrest's ActiveResponse memory foam, but there's not enough memory foam to give them any kind of traditional slow-melting memory foam feel. Still, you're getting some of the pressure-relieving qualities of memory foam.
(If you are interested in a Beautyrest mattress that has more memory feel, see our coverage of the Beautyrest Harmony Hybrid and Harmony Lux Hybrid mattresses.)
A variety of other comfort foams are used to vary the softness (or feel) of each mattress.

Beautyrest Harmony Beachfront Bay Series
There are 4 mattresses in the Beachfront Bay collection, which vary in terms of softness and mattress height. There are a wide range of available feels among these mattresses.
All share a pocketed-spring support unit with 875 coils in a queen size. Beautyrest varies the coil/wire type to create differences in softness. Generally, cushioning depth--that's how much you sink into the mattress--maps pretty closely to the overall feel. For instance, on the softer versions, you get more conformance as well.
Edge support in these models is excellent--handy if you like to sit or lay right on the edge of the mattress. These mattresses also have a lot of bounce, owing to all those springs. But because the pocketed springs operate independently from each other, motion isolation is good, so you're less likely to feel a partner's movements.
None of these mattresses contain enough memory foam to give them that melty feeling that some people like about memory foam.

Beautyrest Harmony Cypress Bay Series
There are 3 mattresses in the Cypress Bay collection, which vary in terms of softness and mattress height.
They use the same 8" pocketed spring support unit as the Beachfront Bay mattresses. Differences include higher-density comfort foams and an additional cooling feature: Under the cover is a layer of silver-infused fibers intended to help draw heat from the body.
Edge support in these models is very good overall, with the softer models having more sinkage on the edges. These mattresses also have a lot of bounce, owing to all those springs. But because the pocketed springs operate independently from each other, motion isolation is good, so you're less likely to feel a partner's movements.
Again, none of these mattresses contain enough memory foam to give them that melty feeling that some people like about memory foam.
Notably, the Extra Firm version is extremely firm if you're really looking for an exceptionally firm bed.
