Brand A mattress, Brand B foundation - OK?

I have an ancient mattress and am replacing it. I've been shopping around and looking at mattress/foundation sets. I am in an old (200+ year old house) so need to get a split foundation to get it up the stairs. The additional charge for a split foundation runs $50 to $100 additional or more! The ones that shock me are where the mattress is on sale and a good price and the foundation is almost the same price!

Since I am purchasing both new, would it be bad to get a mattress from store A and a foundation from store B? I was also looking at some where you put together your own box foundation, like from Wayfair. I realize warranties are to the benefit of the manufacturer rather than the buyer, would this be a major impact?
