Thanks for your interest in Serta! While these mattresses are similar in build, there are some key differences. The Applause features our original Cool Action material, which is premium memory foam infused with one type of gel, and our original Duet Coil innerspring. The Consul features our Cool Effects Dual Action material, which is premium memory foam with two types of gel, and an upgraded version of the Duet Coil innerspring with more coils. It also has a different cover/fabric.
