Removing the smell on an Optimum mattress?

Bought our Sealy Optimum Aster a month ago, and the foam smell is still quite strong.... any remedies?

One Answer:

Hi,

The smell comes from a combination of many factors: polyester fabric covering, adhesives holding together the foam layers, the polyurethane foam itself and possibly the fire barrier chemical. All these things have chemical off-gassing, or VOC's, which can be a health risk. If you have been breathing in these fumes for a month, I highly recommend moving the mattress into your garage or some place away from your indoor air and letting it off-gas away from humans and pets. Remove all the bedding and let it breathe. Walk around on it to push out the air to aid in the off-gassing.
