Choosing fill amount for a waterbed?

Why should I choose a deep fill vs. medium fill waterbed mattress? Is it only aesthetics? Or is comfort affected by fill amount too?

One Answer:

In theory the deeper the fill the better the fit to your body. Of course there are extremes that won't matter. The "traditional" wood frame waterbed is about 9" deep in water. That's about the max. Shallow fill (usually found in the softside waterbeds only) can run 4 to 5 inches. Sometimes it's about what fits your room/lifestyle but mostly it's about what feels better to you.
