Summary: Serta iSeries NXG Overview
The new Serta iSeries NXG Collection replaces the outgoing iSeries models and upgrades these with new memory foams, multi-level cooling features, and all-foam and hybrid designs. All of these are built with a smooth, very high stretch cover that maximizes the feel of the underlying high-performance foams. They also add some very high density foams. We’d even call some of these Ultra High Density - our highest density category in memory foam.
First, let’s discuss the common features across the NXG Collection.
Shared Features
High-Density Memory Foams
All of the NXG models include some amount of Carbon Fiber Memory Foam and NXG Memory Foam. We’d call both of these high density memory foams. The Carbon Fiber Memory Foam is a 3.6lb density, which is not astonishingly high density, but is still significantly denser than the average 2.5lb memory foam on the market. The Carbon Fiber Memory Foam also contains (you guessed it) carbon fiber, that improves the conductive ability of the mattress and directs heat away from a sleeper.
The NXG Memory Foam, on the other hand, is an astonishingly high density. This is a new memory foam with a robust feel and a 5lb density. This is what we’d call an Ultra High Density foam, and is included in all of the NXG models. Additionally, some of the models also have a 6lb memory foam, in the Deep Reaction Max Memory Foam. These are all impressive foams that we think will hold up well to long-term use.

MaxCool Cover
All of the Serta iSeries NXG models also have a deep blue stretch knit cover with cool-to-the-touch PE fibers. If you’re unfamiliar, these are a unique type of fiber that’s becoming increasingly common in the mattress industry today. Because of its unique construction, it’s able to absorb heat from a sleeper’s body and also contributes to the sense of overall mattress cooling. The analogy we like to use to explain this is that of a marble surface. Marble feels cool-to-the-touch because it’s a very dense material with a high overall heat capacity that absorbs your body heat when you touch it. The PE fibers work similarly to this.

UltraCold System
Finally, many of the new NXG models also have what Serta is calling their UltraCold System. This is a thick of layer of phase-change material (PCM) that’s added to the top layer of foam within the mattress. PCM’s work via somewhat complicated chemical principles, but the gist is that this layer is also able to absorb heat from a sleeper. This, in combination with the PE fiber and Carbon Fiber, means that the NXG mattresses have 2-3 different systems to manage and mitigate heat retention.

All-Foam Models
There are four Foam Mattresses in the NXG Collection. These all have the same high-quality foam base, but vary in terms of the composition and feel of the overlying memory foam.
Serta breaks these down into two Level One models, and two Level Two models. The Level One models are both 12” in height and have Carbon Fiber and NXG Memory Foam (as well as other foams) over a foam core with a reinforced edge. The Level Two models are both 13.5” in height and have Carbon Fiber and NXG Memory Foams with the addition of other memory foams and the UltraCold PCM layer.
| Model Name | Softness | Cushioning Depth | Memory Feel |
| Level 1 1500 Luxury Firm | Medium-Firm | Deep | High |
| Level 1 2500 Plush | Medium | Deep | High |
| Level 2 3500 Medium | Firm | Slightly Deep | High |
| Level 2 4500 Ultra Plush | Medium-Firm | Very Deep | Very High |
Hybrid Models
There are six total models in the NXG Hybrid Collection. These have slightly different overlying foams (although all have the Carbon Fiber and NXG Memory Foam) over the same five-zone 1000 coil density base.
Much like with the Foam models, these are also split into two categories: the Level One Hybrids and the Level Two Hybrids. The Level One Hybrids all have the MaxCold Cover, Carbon Fiber Memory Foam, and NXG Memory foam over the five-zone coil unit. The Level Two Hybrids add more memory foam and the UltraCold layer of PCM, but retain the same coil unit.
| Model Name | Softness | Cushioning Depth | Memory Feel |
| Level 1 1500 Firm | Medium-Firm | Slightly Shallow | Medium High |
| Level 1 2500 Medium | Medium-Firm | Slightly Deep | Medium |
| Level 1 2500 Plush | Medium | Deep | Medium-High |
| Level 2 3500 Firm | Firm | Medium | Medium-High |
| Level 2 3500 Medium | Medium-Firm | Slightly Deep | Medium-High |
| Level 2 4500 Plush | Medium-Soft | Deep | High |
Who We Think These Are Best For
The iSeries NXG Line is a high-quality new line of mattresses from Serta that combines high density memory foams and multi-level cooling tech. We think these are a great option for most people, but are an especially good option for two rough categories of sleepers.
First, these would be a great fit for anyone that wants a luxury mattress with a lot of pressure relief. High density memory foam does an excellent job at relieving pressure and creating a highly supportive sleep surface that feels firm and soft at the same time. We’d also expect these to be highly durable, and to last better than most foam mattresses or hybrids on the market.
Second, we’d recommend these to anyone that struggles with sleeping hot on foam mattresses. The NXG Line uses three different systems for cooling: the Carbon Fiber Memory Foam, PE Fiber, and PCM material. The combination of these materials leads to a noticeable sense of coolness-to-the-touch. If you’ve had trouble with sleeping hot on foam or hybrid mattresses before, these might be a better option for you.
Finally, we might make a special recommendation to very curvy sleepers. We often find that mattresses with a five-zone coil unit are a good match for their body shape and are able to closely contour to their lumbar spine and hips. That said, we think this will still work well for all body types.
