Serta iComfortECO Mattresses
The next evolution of Serta's very popular iComfort line, the 20 total models in the new iComfortECO series replace the models in the outgoing iComfort collection from 2020-2022.
As you might guess from the name, these models include a higher degree of sustainable and upcycled materials compared to the outgoing iComfort collection, and represent Serta's first entry in the the 'green' mattress category.
Fewer glues
These mattresses use fewer chemical glues. For example, instead of the pocket coils being glued together, the fabric pockets are heat welded together.
More natural foams
Many materials are more sustainable than standard materials would normally be. The latex used in certain models is partly plant-based, made of 20% natural latex from real rubber trees. The memory foams are made from 30% soybean oil rather than completely petroleum based. The percentage of soy qualifies the foam for USDA bio-based certification.
Recycled materials
The steel used for the coils is 85% recycled. Covers are made from fibers created from recycled plastic bottles as well as recycled nylon. And lastly, the mattresses have a base layer recycled plastic to serve as a support for the layers further up. Altogether, the manufacturer says that each Serta iComfortECO mattress recycles the equivalent of 120 plastic waters.
Eco-friendly cooling
Lots of mattresses today include some kind of cooling chemicals, called phase-change material, that can make a mattress feel cool to the touch. Instead of chemicals, the Serta iComfortECO models' use of recycled plastic and nylon give the covers an inherent coolness without chemical treatments.
By the numbers (and letters)
Letter | Meaning |
F | All-foam collection |
S | Smooth-cover collection |
Q | Quilted-cover collection |
GL | Includes gel foam |
LTX | Includes latex |
HD | Includes HD memory foam |
UHD | Includes ultra HD memory foam |
Within each collection, model numbers range from 10 to 50. So for example, if you encounter the iComfortECO Q20GL Firm Pillow Top, you know that it's from the "Q" collection, with a quilted cover, and that it includes gel memory foam. And from the "20", which is of course higher than 10 but lower than 40, you're looking at one of the middle models in terms of features.
Serta iComfortECO "F" Foam Mattresses
Models in the iComfortECO "F" collection are all-foam mattresses. All models feature a one-inch base that's made of recycled water bottles. On top of that is a 7" HD polyurethane foam support core. And all models share the same stretchy, non-quilted fabric cover that's made in part with fibers made from recycled water bottles as well as recycled nylon fibers.
There are 7 models in this collection, with a range of features and feels. All of these models, in our view, have a medium feel or softer with the exception of the F15GL, which was the firmest of the collection in our view.
All have average cushioning or a little more than average.
In terms of bounce, since these are all-foam mattresses, they are not bouncy at all. Models that include some latex have a little bit of surface bounce.

Serta iComfortECO "S" Smooth Hybrid Mattresses
The smooth-cover hybrid mattresses in the iComfortECO "S" collection all feature the same high coil count, encased coil unit with zoned support. Of note, there are actually five zones in the new iComfortECO hybrid with firmer coils placed at your midback/lumbar area and softer coils placed at the shoulders and hips.
This is slightly different than most zoned designs on the market (which tend to place firmer coils in the middle-third of the mattress) and has a distinct feel to it. We think this system might be particularly helpful for people with larger hips that want a bit more contour in that area. However, it may not be preferred by people that tend to feel pressure in their ribs.
There's a 4" foam block around the sides of the mattress for edge support. These beds also have functional handles - that's an upgrade from the all-foam "F" collection.

S15GL Firm | Medium |
S20GL Plush | Medium-Soft |
S30LTX Medium | Medium |
S40UHD Plush | Medium-Soft |
S50UHD Medium | Medium |
These models have more memory feel as you go up in the collection, with the UHD models having the most of that melting-into-the-bed feel. In terms of bounce, these beds definitely have more than average owing to their spring support base. Mattresses that include some latex also have some surface bounce.
Serta iComfortECO "Q" Quilted Hybrid Mattresses
The Serta iComfortECO "Q" models are very similar in terms of features to the "S" Smooth Hybrid mattresses. The big difference is their covers, which are quilted and have more of a traditional look and feel. These models also share the same five zone encased coil system.
