Summary: Sealy Posturepedic Collections
The new Posturepedic collections from Sealy update and reinvent the Posturepedic brand with improvements at every price point. These build on the legacy of ergonomic, zoned support with new coil units, new models, and a wider variety of quilted and hybrid options.
First, let’s discuss the features common across the Posturepedic collections.
Shared Features in All Models
PrecisionFit Coil
All of the new Posturepedic mattresses use Sealy’s brand PrecisionFit Coil.
This is a totally new coil that’s a bit different than a standard pocket spring. Unlike other pocket springs, which tend to have a consistent and uniform geometry with a linear sense of increasing support, the PrecisionFit Coil is a multi-stage pocket spring. In other words, the coil initially feels quite soft and then firms with pressure to create distinctly different “stages” of support. This allows these coils to have a light initial contact but still support the heavier parts of a person’s body.
This kind of multi-stage design is not a totally new technology (we have seen this with a few relatively uncommon coil units in the past), but it is one of the first times we’ve seen it incorporated into a major brand’s flagship collection. What's more, these PrecisionFit Coils are found in every Posturepedic mattress and hybrid. In the base Posturepedic and Posturepedic Plus lines, these are found in the center-third of the mattress. With the Posturepedic Pro and Elite models, these run the full length of the mattress.

Zoned Support
All of the new Posturepedic mattresses also have amount of zoning in the center of the mattress.
If you’re unfamiliar, mattress zoning is a style of construction in which firmer and softer areas are used to balance body contours and support heavier body parts. In the case of the Posturepedic Collection, this is a classic three-zone system with firmer coils placed in the center of the mattress to better support what is typically the heaviest part of a person’s body - their hips.
In our opinion, this is generally one of the simplest and most effective styles of mattress zoning. It’s also one of the easiest for people of different heights and sizes to adjust to and find a comfortable position on. We also think that this is an upgrade from Sealy’s previous Posturepedic Collection, which tended to use extra sheets of foam in the center-third of the mattress, and didn't always have zoning built in to the coil units themselves. We don't think that using foam to zone a mattress is necessarily a bad thing, but we typically find that it's a bit more effective at the level of the coil unit.
Note: some of the new Posturepedic models have both zoned comfort layers AND zoned coil units.

Sealy Posturepedic
The Sealy Posturepedic collection represents the entry-level in the greater Posturepedic lineup. But despite being entry-level, these all have the new and advanced PrecisionFit Coils in the center of the mattress to provide extra support and a 736 coil count in a Queen size. In our opinion, this zoning is gentle but noticeable. We also think it’s more supportive than the zoning seen in the older generation of Posturepedic.
These mattresses all have light blue covers, and are divided into both Spring and Hybrid models. Both the spring and hybrid models will use the same underlying coil unit, but will have slightly different comfort layers. In addition, the Spring have an extra layer of poly foam in the center third of the mattress to provide even more zoned support.
You might see these referred to as the Medina models.

Sealy Posturepedic Plus
The Sealy Posturepedic Plus collection adds an upgraded coil edge to the coil unit used on the Posturepedic models. This feels a bit more substantial and upgrades the overall coil count to 966. These models also tend to have a bit more foam than the base Posturepedic models. Like those models, however, they have a zoned middle-third with the multi-stage PrecisionFit Coil in the center.
These mattresses still have light blue covers, but with a bit more dark blue incorporated into the design. Like the Posturepedic collection, they are divided into Spring and Hybrid models. The Spring models also have an extra sheet of foam in the middle-third, although in this case this sheet of foam is memory foam instead of simple poly foam.
You might see these referred to as the Paterson models.

Sealy Posturepedic Pro
Unlike the Posturepedic and Posturepedic Plus mattresses, the Posturepedic Pro mattresses use the advanced PrecisionFit Coil for the entire length of the mattress. The zoning, in this case, is created by adding extra narrow coils (akin to the those seen on the coil edge) between the PrecisionFit Coils in the center third. This means that these mattresses are still zoned in the middle, but have an even higher coil count (at 1066 coils in a Queen size) and use a more responsive coil for the full length of the mattress. They call this coil unit the MaxSupport unit.
In practice, we thought that these mattresses felt even more conforming than the Posturepedic and Posturepedic Plus models, with a softer sense at the shoulder while side-sleeping. These mattresses also tend to more memory feel, with a denser-feeling memory foam. They also add cool-to-the-touch fabrics to the cover. Much like with the Posturepedic and Posturepedic Plus models, these are available in Spring and Hybrid models.
These are often referred to as the Dupont models.

Sealy Posturepedic Elite
The Posturepedic Elite collection represents the top of the line in the Sealy Posturepedic portfolio. Much like with the Pro models, these also use the MaxSupport coil unit. Unlike those models, these mattresses add a lot more memory feel and phase change material to the top layer of the mattress. If you're unfamiliar, phase-change material is a wax-based additive that actively changes phase from a solid to a liquid when exposed to body heat. This change in phase draws heat away from a sleeper. In our experience, this technology tends to very effective, although the effect is typically exhausted after thirty or forty minutes.
Much like the other collections, Elite is divided into Spring and Hybrid models. These can be distinguished by their dark blue covers and names like Albany. Brenham, and High Point. These also have tend to have a LOT more memory feel than the other lines, with a slower overall response.![]()
Who We Think These Are Best For
There are a huge number of options in the new Posturepedic lineup. By our count, there are 35 total models that run the gamut of Very Soft to Ultra Firm. As such, we think there's something for almost everyone here. These also use one of our favorite styles of zoning, and incorporate on every model.
Looking at these as a whole, we think the big differentiator is probably memory feel. As you go up the lines from the Posturepedic to the Elite models, these add more memory feel and denser-feeling foams. This means that people that don't like memory foam may be better served by the Posturepedic or Posturepedic Plus models, while those that do might prefer the Pro and Elite models.
