This is our plain-English explanation and overview of the updated Nectar All-Foam and Hybrid Collections.
Summary: Nectar Mattress Line
Brand new in 2024, Nectar's mattress lineup includes new constructions, new covers, and some completely new models. These new models build on the legacy and general feel of the old Nectar mattresses, but leverage a few changes that we think make their collection easier to understand. All of these mattresses include cool-to-touch covers and some amount of gel memory foam, although the amount of cooling features and memory foam will vary by model. We'll discuss both their all-foam and hybrid options below.
Shared Features across the Nectar Collection
Cover
All of Nectar's new mattresses have stretch-knit covers with a rounded "waterfall" edge. All of these covers also contain polyethylene fibers - this is a high-density yarn with inherent cool-to-the-touch properties. The analogy we like to use explain these fibers is that of a marble surface. Consider how the high density of a marble surface feels relative to a lower density surface like a wooden surface. The greater heat capacity of a marble surface draws heat from your body and thus feels cool to touch. Polyethylene fibers work similarly. All of Nectar's new mattresses contain these fibers with greater amounts found as you step up the line.
Comfort Layers
Additionally, all of Nectar's mattresses are built with some amount of gel memory foam. The base Classic models contain an inch of memory foam; the Premier models contain two inches of memory foam; the Luxe models contain three inches of memory foam; and the Ultra models contain four inches of memory foam (with added phase-change material). There are also some differences in the type of memory foams used, with the higher-end models using higher-density foams.
Nectar Foam Mattresses
All of Nectar's foam Mattresses are built using the same basic construction: a gel memory foam comfort layer, a three inch foam transition layer, and an eight inch poly foam core. As you step up the line, these models add more memory foam, more cooling features, phase-change material and zoned support. It starts with the Nectar Classic. This is a new model with some similarities to the old base Nectar model, but with a slightly different feel. The Nectar Classic uses an inch of gel memory foam and has a Firm overall feel.
The Nectar Premier and Luxe models add even more memory foam and more cooling fibers. The Nectar Premier model adds another inch of gel memory foam (now two total inches) than the Nectar Classic. The mattress cover also feels noticeably cooler than the Classic. Similarly, the Luxe models adds another inch of gel memory foam relative to the Premier (now three total inches) and even more cooling fibers.
Finally, the Ultra model adds yet another inch of memory foam, more cooling fibers, and phase-change material just below the cover. For those unfamiliar, phase-change material is another type of cooling technology that in this case works in combination with the polyethylene fibers in the cover. The Ultra also adds zoned reinforcement to transition layer in the center-third of the mattress. This means that this layer uses a section of slightly firmer foam to help keep your hips and back aligned and supported in all positions.
Model | Softness | Cushioning Depth | Memory Feel |
Nectar Classic | Firm | Shallow | Medium |
Nectar Premier | Firm | Slightly Shallow | Medium-High |
Nectar Luxe | Very Firm | Medium | Medium-High |
Nectar Ultra | Very Firm | Slightly Deep | High |
(Note: The all-foam models can be distinguished from the Hybrids by the disconnected line where the gray side panels meet the dark blue side panels. On the hybrids, this is a continuous line with colored piping.)
Nectar Hybrid Mattresses
Much like with the all-foam models, the Nectar hybrid models all share a common underlying construction: these all have a gel memory foam comfort layer, a two inch foam transition layer, and a firm underlying pocket spring unit (this is a 13 gauge and 682 coil count unit) with a reinforced coil edge. These also add more memory foam and additional cooling features as you step up in the collection.
In the case of the Classic Hybrid, it uses an inch of gel memory foam and has a Firm overall feel. The Premier and Luxe models each add more gel memory foam (two and three total inches respectively) and additional cooling fibers, and keep the same underlying coil unit.
The Ultra Hybrid adds even more memory foam (now four total inches), more cooling fibers, and phase-change material just below the stretch cover. It also adds zoned support to the underlying coil unit. And much like the Ultra Foam Model, the Ultra Hybrid is zoned to add support in the center third and maintain alignment in combination with the thick overlying comfort materials. However, where the Ultra Foam is zoned at the level of the transition layer, the Ultra Hybrid is zoned in the coil unit itself.
Model | Softness | Cushioning Depth | Memory Feel |
Nectar Classic Hybrid | Medium-Firm | Medium | Medium |
Nectar Premier Hybrid | Medium-Firm | Slightly Deep | Medium-High |
Nectar Luxe Hybrid | Firm | Slightly Deep | High |
Nectar Ultra Hybrid | Firm | Slightly Deep | High |
(Note: The hybrid models can be distinguished from the all-foam models by a straight line where the gray side panels meet the dark blue side panels. Additionally, the hybrids have colored piping here.)
Who We Think These Are Best For
We think these are good options for people that like the feel of dense memory foam. This means that these mattresses feel somewhat firm at the surface and gradually relax and contour to your body as you lay on them. It also means that, when compared to one another, these mattresses feel slightly similar at a surface level, but have a very different sense of deeper contouring and Cushioning Depth.
The only people we'd steer away from the new Nectar models would be people that dislike the feeling of slow-responding memory foam. Memory foam is generally a high-quality material, but it feels somewhat distinct, and it's not loved by all sleepers. Similarly, we didn't think that any of these mattresses felt truly soft at their surface. If you're looking for something that's very soft, it might be best to look elsewhere.
