The Casper Snow Max is a unique memory foam hybrid that combines extensively zoned comfort layers with multiple cooling technologies. It’s designed to closely match your body’s contours and allow a sense of sleeping nestled “within” the mattress, while keeping you cool and comfortable. In practice, we thought this worked rather well, and would be a good fit for many side-sleepers that want a softer than average mattress.

Back Support + Pressure Relief ("Fit")

We thought that the Casper Snow Max was a lot more conforming than most mattresses that we’ve tested, and thought it would be uniquely well-suited to side-sleepers of varying shapes and sizes. This sense of conformance fit is created by the precise contour cuts within the foam layer themselves. These cuts effectively create softer areas within the mattress that allow for pointier body parts (like your shoulders) to sink somewhat deeply within the mattress, while heavier parts are supported and elevated. The combined effect is a gentle and supportive contour that we thought was well-suited to side sleeping. 

This could also work well for back sleepers, although heavier back sleepers and stomach sleepers might do better elsewhere.

The foam layers also add a lot of pressure relief. The Casper Snow Max uses a combination of memory foam and high-performance poly foam to relieve pressure while creating enough structure within the mattress to remain supportive. We thought it was XXXX

Softness + Comfort ("Feel")

We found the Casper Snow Max to be about a Medium-Soft on our Softness scale, although readers should take note that we distinguish between Softness and Cushioning Depth in all of our content. We use the term Softness to refer to how the mattress feels on initial contact with the mattress, and use the term Cushioning Depth to refer to the sense of how deeply a sleeper settles within the mattress after the initial comfort layers yield to their weight. It also has a considerable amount of Memory Feel, although this is not a really slow responding memory foam as you might find with some memory foam mattresses. We’d put it at just above average for overall Memory Feel.

Performance Attributes ("Features")

The Casper Snow Max also has extensive cooling features. These are contained within the cover of the mattress (there are PE fibers in the yarn itself), in the top layer of foam (there is a full sheet of PCM material), and with novel carbon fiber bands that direct heat from between the foam layers. In practice this creates one of the strongest senses of “cooling” that we’ve experienced. Comfort and Feel

The “feel” characteristics of a mattress cannot be universally better or worse. They can only be more or less desirable to you, based on your personal preferences. For this reason, we call these “preference-based” attributes. Our ratings here are based on objective measurements that we apply to a consistent scale for products from all brands.

Back Support

The key to good back support is for the mattress to support your spine in a “neutral” position while you sleep, meaning that the shape of your spine is roughly the same as when you're standing. The ability of any given mattress to do this will vary by sleeper, depending on its “fit” for your weight, body shape, and preferred sleep position(s).

Pressure Relief

Inadequate pressure relief from your mattress results in “pressure points,” which can be a source of pain, soreness, loss of circulation, restlessness, and other problems. Pressure relief requirements will vary be sleeper, with side sleepers needing the most. Likewise, the amount of pressure relief that a given mattress provides will also vary by sleeper, depending on its “fit” for your weight and body shape.

Performance Features

With the “features” of a mattress, performance will tend to be consistent across all sleepers – without regards to your body type or preferences. However, these attributes have differing levels of importance to each sleeper, which is why we consider them “priority-based” characteristics.

Materials & Construction

What's in the Casper Snow Max Hybrid?

The Casper Snow Max Hybrid is a memory foam hybrid mattress comprised of six overall layers:

• stretch knit cover
• 1" memory foam
• 1.5" memory foam
• 2" memory foam
• 6" pocket springs
• 2" poly foam

The Nectar Luxe Hybrid is a modern hybrid mattress made with memory foam and pocket springs.

At the surface of the mattress we have a smooth, stretch-knit cover. This kind of stretch-knit cover is typical of modern hybrid mattresses, and allows the underlying foam layers to be in direct contact with the sleeper's body. Just underneath this, we have a layer of somewhat fast-responding memory foam. Next, we have a layer of poly foam to act as a transition layer and hold structure for the mattress. Just underneath this, we have a layer of somewhat thick, lower-gauge pocket springs and a 1" poly foam base layer.
