Supporting the foam layers is an 8" pocket-spring unit with a total of 840 coils in a queen size. This is a zoned-support unit, meaning there are thicker/heavier springs in the central third of the mattress under your hip area, designed to give the heaviest part of your body a little extra support.
The Aurora Luxe mattress also has two rows of narrower coils running along both of the long sides of the bed, meant to give the mattress some extra edge support.
Lastly two 3/4" transition layers of foam nestle between the primary comfort foams and the coils, and again at the base of the coils.
Cover + Cloud Pillow Top Option
The cover on the Brooklyn Aurora Luxe mattress is a cooling cover; about half of its fibers are made of high-density polyethylene fibers. These fibers are inherently cool to the touch, much in the way that marble just feels cooler than wood. The company calls it GlacioTex, and it really does feel cool -- in fact it's one of the coolest covers we have ever felt.
New for this year's version of the Aurora Luxe, you can add a pillow top. Brooklyn Bedding calls it the Cloud Pillow Top. Made with the same cooling fibers, this cover option has about two inches of very soft foams quilted right into it, giving it a LOT of loft and puffiness. It also does change the overall softness a bit.

Comfort & Feel
Compared to the prior versions, the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora, now the Aurora Luxe, keeps getting firmer. The last version was a Medium on our scale, and now it's a Medium Firm. That's neither here nor there if you are buying this mattress or the first time. But if you have owned a prior model and are expecting it to feel the same, it's going to feel firmer.
Getting the Cloud Pillow Top option also effects the overall softness a little bit, making it just a notch softer for each model in our estimation.
In terms of cushioning depth--how deeply you sink into the bed--this generally tracks right along with overall softness. We did not find that adding the Cloud Pillow Top made much difference to cushioning depth. It was more or less the same either way.

Memory Feel
We look at memory feel -- also called responsiveness -- in two ways. First, we examine how quickly a mattress springs back after being depressed, then we take a look at bounce qualities. Since the Brooklyn Aurora Luxe mattress includes only one layer of pretty quick memory foam, we were not surprised to find that it had hardly any of that slow-responding melting quality of memory foam. Rather, the Brooklyn Aurora Luxe mattress sprung back into position quickly.
Bounce
As for bounce, we would expect some springiness due to the layer of pocket springs, and that was indeed the case. There is some surface bounce owing to the springy CopperFlex foam, the plenty of deeper bounce when we plopped on to the bed. Our tester called it "peppy."
Motion Isolation
If you are sensitive to a partner's movements in bed, we don't think you'll be disturbed too much on the Brooklyn Aurora Luxe. And that's true whether you opt for the Cloud Pillow Top or now.
Edge Support
If you like to sit or lie on the edge of your mattress, edge support will be important to you. The coil unit of the Brookyn Aurora Luxe mattress has two rows of firmer coils along the long edges made for this purpose.
In our testing, edge support was pretty good. Interestingly, it was better on the softer version than the firm version (usually it's the opposite). Part of the reason it doesn't feel quite as stable, in our view, was the cover, which felt a little slippery.
Ease of Repositioning
Our tester did not find that moving from position to position was problematic on the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe.

One of the biggest, if not THE biggest complaints about any mattress from consumers regards body impressions—the inability of a mattress to spring back, eventually creating a low spot/sinkhole in the mattress. As such, mattress warranties all contain a term defining how big a sag or ‘body impression’ (measured when no one is on the mattress) is considered a defect, and thus covered under the warranty. The industry standard for mattresses is generally between ¾” and 1.5”, and Brooklyn Bedding has gone with 1.5". Practically speaking, that means any softening or sagging would need to be at least that deep before the warranty would offer you protection. See: Brooklyn Bedding warranty policy.
