Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid Mattresses
The Beautyrest Harmony line of mattresses is now divided into four collections. The Harmony and Harmony Lux Quilted mattresses are more standard innerspring models with comfort foams and cooling properties. While they all have a little memory foam, none of them have much memory feel--that slow, melting into the bed sensation.
The Beautyrest Harmony and Harmony Lux Hybrid models, however, include more memory foam, and have a bit more of that memory feel, along with the pressure relieving qualities associated with memory foam.
Here, we discuss the five Harmony Lux Hybrid models, the Ocean View Island in Firm, Medium and Plush; and the Seabrook Island mattress in Firm and Plush. We cover the less expensive Harmony Hybrid Driftwood Bay mattresses on another page; in comparison, the upgraded Lux Hybrid mattresses have more memory foam and more premium foams, along with more cooling features.

Sustainable fibers in mattress covers
All of the Beautyrest Harmony mattresses share a unique cover that features polyester fibers made from recycled water bottles. A company named Seaqual makes the fibers from plastic waste collected at sea by fishermen. The company buys the plastic from them, essentially paying them to help clean plastic from oceans and waterways.
Once cleaned, the plastic is made first into pellets, then spun into a fiber that can be used to make fabric.
Each queen-size mattress cover recycles the equivalent of 50 water bottles. You can read more about the Beautyrest/Seaqual partnership on the Harmony page of the Beautyrest website.
Pocketed coil units
All of the Harmony Lux Hybrid models have an 8" pocketed coil support unit.
We discussed the company's T3 coils featured in the Beautyrest Black collection; these feature three wires twisted together, then formed into a coil. The Harmony Lux collection uses Beautyrest's T2 coils -- similar, but with two wires twisted together then coiled.
These T2 coils are super strong; they are interspersed with standard single-wire coils to vary the feel and cushioning of the mattress. Differences in mattress feel and cushioning are achieved by using different types of wire/coil for the interspersed standard coils. For example, on the plush models, a springier, softer coil is used, while the firmer mattresses use a stiffer/firmer coil.
All of these Beautyrest coil units have a 4" foam perimeter going all the way around the mattress to assist with edge support.

Memory foam
The mattresses in the Harmony Lux Hybrid collection include 2 to 2.5" of Beautyrest's ActiveResponse memory foam, the most memory foam among any of the Beautyrest Harmony line mattresses, making them the best choice if you want more of that sinking-into-the-bed feeling that's associated with memory foam.
The ActiveResponse foam is a gel memory foam; gel is a known conductor of heat, so it's designed to help draw heat from the body.
That's not the only cooling feature. The Harmony Lux Hybrid mattresses also include covers with phase-change material. Phase-change material is an additive to the fabric that can be thought of as tiny wax beads. These high-density particles stay solid until your body eventually warms them and melts the wax, helping you stay cooler while you fall asleep.
Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid Ocean View Island
There are 3 versions of the Harmony Hybrid Lux Ocean View Island mattress, a Firm, a Medium and a Plush.
All share a pocketed-spring support unit using the stronger T2 coils interspersed with standard coils. Beautyrest varies the standard coil/wire type to create differences in softness. Generally, cushioning depth--that's how much you sink into the mattress--maps pretty closely to the overall feel. For instance, on the softer version, you get more conformance as well.
Edge support in these models is very good, with the edge holding up a big better on the Firm version--handy if you like to sit or lay right on the edge of the mattress. These mattresses also above average bounce, owing to all those springs. But because the pocketed springs operate independently from each other, motion isolation is good, so you're less likely to feel a partner's movements.
All contain two inches of ActiveResponse memory foam, and have an above-average amount of memory feel, so you get more conformance and pressure-relieving qualities compared to the non-Lux versions.
On our scale, we judge the Firm version to be more of a Medium Firm -- it isn't a super firm bed. The Plush version is very soft, with above average cushioning and conformance. And the Medium is a Medium Soft on our scale. So the comfort and feel is pretty different between the three mattresses.

Beautyrest Harmony Lux Hybrid Seabrook Island
There are 2 versions of the Harmony Hybrid Lux Seabrook Island mattress, a Firm and a Plush. These two mattresses are the top of the Harmony line overall, and have a couple of additional features.
First, the Seabrook Island mattresses have an additional type of memory foam that's infused with charcoal. Charcoal has heat-conducting properties and is intended to help draw heat from your body to avoid overheating. This is in addition to the phase-change material in the cover. Altogether, the Seabrook Island mattresses have a total of 3" of memory foam, and a slightly above average memory feel.
Both share a pocketed-spring support unit using the stronger T2 coils interspersed with standard coils, and the 4" foam edge-support feature. Because there's so much memory foam on top of the coil unit, however, we found that edge support isn't as good as it is on the other Harmony mattresses. Still, it's pretty good.
The Firm version is also a Firm on our scale, with average cushioning depth (how much you sink into the bed). The Plush version is a Soft on our scale, and it really has very deep cushioning. If you really like to feel like you are sinking deeply into a bed, the Seabrook Island Plush has that.
