Beautyrest Harmony Hybrid Mattresses
The Beautyrest Harmony line of mattresses is now divided into four collections. The Harmony and Harmony Lux Quilted mattresses are more standard innerspring models with comfort foams and cooling properties. While they all have a little memory foam, none of them have much memory feel--that slow, melting into the bed sensation.
The Beautyrest Harmony Hybrid models, however, include more memory foam, and have a bit more of that memory feel, along with the pressure relieving qualities associated with memory foam.
Here, we discuss the two Harmony Hybrid models. We cover the Harmony Lux Hybrid mattresses on another page; these upgraded mattresses have more memory foam and more premium foams, along with more cooling features.
There are two mattresses under the Harmony Hybrid name: the Driftwood Bay Firm and the Driftwood Bay Plush.

Sustainable fibers in mattress covers
The Beautyrest Harmony Hybrid mattresses share a unique cover that features polyester fibers made from recycled water bottles. A company named Seaqual makes the fibers from plastic waste collected at sea by fishermen. The company buys the plastic from them, essentially paying them to help clean plastic from oceans and waterways.
Once cleaned, the plastic is made first into pellets, then spun into a fiber that can be used to make fabric.
Each queen-size mattress cover recycles the equivalent of 50 water bottles. You can read more about the Beautyrest/Seaqual partnership on the Harmony page of the Beautyrest website.
Pocketed coil units
All of the Harmony Hybrid models have an 8" pocketed coil support unit with about 875 coils (queen size), and a standard fabric-pocketed spring. Differences in mattress feel and cushioning are achieved by using different types of wire/coil. For example, on the plush model, a springier, softer coil is used, while the firm mattress use a stiffer/firmer coil.
Note that when you step up to the Harmony Lux Hybrid versions, you get a new coil as well, Beautyrest's T2 coil, which is made of two wires twisted together for a stronger coil.
All of these Beautyrest coil units have a 4" foam perimeter going all the way around the mattress to assist with edge support.
Memory foam
The mattresses in the Harmony Hybrid collection include an inch of Beautyrest's ActiveResponse memory foam, and while there isn't a huge amount of that sinking-into-the-bed feeling, you do get a little delayed response along with the pressure relieving qualities of memory foam.
The ActiveResponse foam is what we call a "quick responding" foam, so it springs back into shape fairly quickly.

Beautyrest Harmony Hybrid Driftwood Bay
There are 2 versions of the Harmony Hybrid Driftwood Bay mattress, a Firm and a Plush version.
Both share a pocketed-spring support unit with 875 coils in a queen size. Beautyrest varies the coil/wire type to create differences in softness. Generally, cushioning depth--that's how much you sink into the mattress--maps pretty closely to the overall feel. For instance, on the softer version, you get more conformance as well.
Edge support in these models is very good, with the edge holding up a big better on the Firm version--handy if you like to sit or lay right on the edge of the mattress. These mattresses also have a lot of bounce, owing to all those springs. But because the pocketed springs operate independently from each other, motion isolation is good, so you're less likely to feel a partner's movements.
Both contain an inch of ActiveResponse memory foam, and do have a little of that melting/memory feel, but not so much that you feel like you are sinking into a hole or being enveloped in your bed.
On our scale, we judge the Firm version to be more of a Medium -- it isn't a super firm bed. The Plush version is quite soft, with above average cushioning and conformance, so the comfort and feel is pretty different between the two Driftwood Bay mattresses.
