Summary: Beautyrest Core 2025 Collection

The new Beautyrest Core line of mattresses replaces the outgoing Harmony line as the relative entry-level in Beautyrest’s Greater Collection. All of these mattresses use an 875 coil density coil unit and a mix of polyurethane foam and memory foam. Additionally, the Core line is broken up into two different subcategories (the Level One and Level Two Collections) with the Level Two models having just a bit more comfort material and memory foam.

Shared Features in All Models

Pocketed Coils

All of the Beautyrest Core models use Beautyrest’s signature Pocketed Coils. If you’re unfamiliar with this term, pocketed coils are a distinct class of innerspring in which coils are contained in individual fabric pockets. These individual pockets allow the coils to flex and conform to your body in a way that wouldn’t be possible on a more traditional tied-coil system.

And unlike most other brands that may use individually wrapped coils, Beautyrest varies the strength and firmness of their coils in different mattresses to create a wider range of firmnesses. This is actually rather unique in the industry today. In our opinion, these different firmnesses (created by varying the gauge, or thickness, of the coil) offer a clear advantage over other systems.

Beautyrest also uses a rather high density unit - at an 875 coil density - in all of their Core models. This is a substantial coil unit with a higher coil density than we see from most brands. It’s a slightly lower coil count than what we’d see on the World Class models (which use a 1000 coil density unit), but it’s still robust and capable for most sleepers.

Memory Foam

All of the Core models use a mix of polyurethane foam and memory foam. The Level One models use a small amount of memory foam (about half an inch), with a somewhat fast-response. As such, these models have little of the “classic” slow-responding memory feel. The Level Two models, on the other hand, have memory foam in the comfort layers and in the quilt itself. This adds a little bit of extra pressure relief and luxury at the surface of the mattress. The Hybrid models also include some higher-density memory foams, which should improve durability over time.

Additionally, the Core models also have some upgraded poly foams as compared to the outgoing Harmony models. Beautyrest has just redesigned all of their mattresses, and in doing this they upgraded the density of their poly foams in many models. In our opinion, these are significant improvements overall.

Quilted Models

Level 1 Models

There are four Level 1 models. All of these use an 875-coil density pocketed coil unit (in varying firmnesses) with a four inch foam edge. Additionally, all of these have a small amount of memory foam, although the sense of Memory Feel isn’t overly noticeable on these models.

Model Name Softness Cushioning Depth Memory Feel
Level 1 Firm Firm Very Shallow Low
Level 1 Medium Medium-Firm Very Shallow Low
Level 1 Medium Pillow Top Medium Slightly Shallow Low

Level 1 Plush

Medium-Soft Medium Low

Level 2 Models

There are five Level 2 models. These add an upgraded quilt and a bit more poly foam and memory foam to the overall construction. In practice, these feel similarly to the Level 1 models, but are just a bit more substantial due to the addition of extra comfort layers. The quilt also feels noticeably cool-to-the-touch due to the inclusion of Phase-Change Material (PCM).

If you're unfamiliar with cooling features in modern mattresses, Phase-Change Materials are fabrics with microscopic wax beads that effectively change phase from a solid to a liquid when exposed to body heat. These work as a heat sink to draw heat away from a sleeper, although the effect of these is typically short-lived and limited to about the first thirty minutes of use.

Model Name Softness Cushioning Depth Memory Feel
Level 2 Extra Firm Very Firm Extremely Shallow Medium-Low
Level 2 Medium Firm Shallow Medium-Low
Level 2 Medium Firm Pillow Top Firm Shallow Medium-Low
Level 2 Plush Soft Deep Medium-Low
Level 2 Plush Pillow Top Very Soft Deep Medium-Low

Hybrid Models

Finally there are two Level 2 Hybrid models (although at the time of initial release - there was only one of these in the Medium-Firm Hybrid). These are very similar in terms of overall construction, with one targeting a Medium-Firm and one targeting a Plush overall feel. Both of these have a slightly different type of memory foam relative to the Quilted Models and have a more dramatic sense of Memory Feel as a result. Both also have a cool-to-touch cover made with a yarn that has cool-to-the-touch properties due to the inclusion of Phase-Change Material (PCM).

In general, smooth-top hybrids tend to offer more Cushioning Depth that Quilted models.

Model Name Softness Cushioning Depth Memory Feel
Level 2 Hybrid Medium Firm Medium-Firm Slightly Shallow Medium-High
Level 2 Hybrid Plush Medium-Firm Deep Medium-High

Who We Think These Are Best For

These are classic pocketed coil mattresses that should suit a wide range of sleepers. Moreover, most of these have relatively little in the way of memory feel. This means that they’re an excellent match for people that may not like memory foam and would prefer a more “traditional” kind of feel. In addition to this, the specs are improved over the last generation in the Harmony line.

The only thing we don’t like about the new Core models would probably be the cover on the Level 1 models. We think that this is generally okay, but the fabric doesn’t feel quite as luxurious as on the Level 2 models. Still, this is largely a cosmetic issue and likely wouldn’t be noticed after sheets are placed on the mattress.

The two Hybrid models are also worth considering. These add a lot more Memory Feel and Cushioning Depth to the Core line, and would be a good option for people that want more conformance and more of a sense of settling "within" their mattress as they sleep.
