Hi Bill -- Thanks for your question. The answer is that from a functional perspective it doesn't matter at all, as the mattress is symmetrical from head to foot. In fact, it is recommended that you rotate your mattress from head to foot periodically to even its wear. So no matter which end starts next to the headboard, it would soon be reversed anyway.
