In general, Stearns & Foster Kirkland mattresses sold at Costco are not comparable to anything in the current national line. Thinking about it from a business standpoint, Stearns & Foster would have way too much to lose by making similar products available at lower prices through the discount channel. The vast majority of S&F sales come through traditional brick & mortar retailers. No smart brick & mortar retailer would bear the expense of maintaining a showroom and educating salespeople in order to help consumers choose the right Stearns & Foster mattress, only for those people to then be able to buy the same mattress at a lower price through a discount retailer. Going even further, all Stearns & Foster products are MAP-priced, which stands for Minimum Advertised Price. This means that S&F sets the price of the product and everyone who sells the product agrees to sell it at that same price. This is to avoid the frustrating price comparison problems that plagued mattress shoppers for decades. It would make no sense for hundreds of brick & mortar retailers to agree to this policy, only to have a discounter like Costco be allowed to sell the same product at a lower price.
