National Sleep Foundation
CONSUMER WARNING RE: WEBSITES THAT MAY APPEAR TO BE PART OF THE NATIONAL SLEEP FOUNDATIONAs of December 2019, the National Sleep Foundation (a 30-year-old non-profit entity) has sold its two primary websites, along with much or all of the content on these websites, to a publisher that has more recently identified themselves as Tuck Media, a commercial entity that publishes a portfolio of mattress review websites. As of August 2020, this change in ownership is now disclosed on the About Us page of these websites. However, we do not feel that this disclosure is adequate to prevent the average consumer from having the impression that these websites are still part of a non-profit entity focused on sleep awareness. Worse yet, it appears that the historical authority of these websites — much of which stems from them having been the property of a non-profit entity — is now being used to promote commercial content like "best mattress" lists. In general, we believe this type of content is highly misleading to consumers. Please be aware that if your website contained links to the National Sleep Foundation prior to 2020, your site may now contain links to one of the above-listed properties that are now owned and operated by Tuck. |
GoodBed's original description of NSF (prior to Dec 2019): Established in 1990, the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving public health and safety by achieving understanding of sleep and sleep disorders, and by supporting sleep-related education, research, and advocacy. In recent years, they have begun pursuing commercial sponsorship arrangements with select brands, wherein the NSF will endorse specific brands in exchange for financial remuneration.
The Better Sleep Council
Established in 1979, the Better Sleep Council is a non-profit organization supported by the mattress industry's foremost trade group, the International Sleep Products Association (ISPA).
North American Spine Society
Founded in 1984, the North American Spine Society is a multidisciplinary medical organization dedicated to spine care, comprised of over 5,000 members spanning orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, physiatry, neurology, radiology, anesthesiology, research, physical therapy and other spine care professionals.
American Chiropractic Association
With approximately 15,000 members, the American Chiropractic Association is the largest professional association in the world representing doctors of chiropractic, providing leadership for the advancement of the profession.
Arthritis Foundation
The Arthritis Foundation is the largest private, not-for-profit contributor to arthritis research in the world, funding more than $380 million in research grants since its founding in 1948 in support of more than 100 types of arthritis and related conditions.
