Not worth the money

We bought our bed in May 2017 so have had it for about 11 months. We had wanted one for a long time after my husband slept on one at a hotel. We went to the store, had a nice salesperson and decided on the p5. We loved it in the store. So soft and plush. We were offered an “outlet p5 that is exactly the same as the store p5” to save us some money so we thought “Why not?” Upon delivery it was quite obvious it wasn’t exactly the same, thin, sagging in the middle and so uncomfortable. So I called customer service, spoke with 3 different agents who all stated “It’s exactly the same as the p5”. After reminding them of the mattress specifications stating a p5 is 11” thick and our mattress is only 9” thick and that is NOT “exactly the same”. Eventually they took away the outlet mattress and brought us the p5 we intended to buy, for an additional fee and no warranty mind you. Well, it’s better than the first one but still not as comfortable as the one in the store and it sags in the middle too. I will never purchase a Sleep Number bed again! Really the only thing we like about it is the adjustable base. I’m posting my review here as Sleep Number would not post it on their website so don’t believe their real customer reviews.

Like camping every night

We bought a P6 split King Sleep Number bed in Nov of 17. It is now Jan of 18 and while my husband LOVES this thing I HATE it. At first it was good. After about two weeks I stopped sleeping through the night and found myself constantly adjusting the sleep number. Here's the issues: lower back pain every morning, when I adjust to help my lower back, my upper back is uncomfortable. When I sleep on my side I like a lower number, but then I feel like I am in a hammock. I unzipped the casing and found that I am basically sleeping on an egg crate on top of the air mattress. I have also found that my neck has been in pain too, which never happened on my traditional Stearns and Foster. I am going to initiate the return process next week. We have already purchased a Hybrid Beautyrest Tolliver to replace it. I am HOPING so much that I will like a hybrid. In summary it does feel like an air mattress with padding. It might be for some, but in no way is it for me, I think I am couch bound until the new one is shipped. Luckily our couch sleeps very well.

comfort pad disaster, been replaced every 6 months

this is a very overpriced item that I've constantly had problems with the comfort pad tearing all the way through where the pad meets the edge of the bed and then your bed becomes rounded off and looks terrible when made. I have replaced it under warranty and currently on my forth foam pad and it is now out of free replacement warranty. Customer service is terrible as they expect the customer to try take the bed apart, install new pad, and shrink wrap it up to return it to them. I have talked to them several times and they will not admit to having a design flaw in this bed but there is no way this 2 inch pad should split apart and droop. A bad bed and company that could care less

Glorified air mattress

Too much money for a glorified air mattress. It's tough don't get me wrong, but you sacrifice comfort.

No Goldilocks "just right" here!

My husband is able to fall asleep on this bed but wakes up with back pain and never found his sleep number. When I try to adjust it for him he says it's fine anywhere from 85-60, though usually has me turn it down for him after a few minutes at 85. I didn't feel comfortable until around 30 but would usually turn it down to 25 in order to fall asleep. From 100-45, the change in each 5 step increment is very small. Letting air out for ~1 second each step. From 45-35 ~4 seconds each step. Going from 35 to 30 ~7 seconds. 30 to 25? ~13 seconds and there is no in between. I don't feel very comfortable until around 30 but usually end up going down to 25 in order to fall asleep. Then I wake up sore and achy. I can't find a comfortable number on this bed at all. I wake up multiple times a night with shoulder pain or neck pain trying to find ways to get more comfortable. At first I thought maybe it was my pillow and have bought half a dozen pillows with no luck. This is the worst (very expensive) purchase we have ever made. It seems this model has been dc'ed and it's obvious why. We didn't realize soon enough - I thought it'd just take some getting used to for me, which was my second mistake but it has gotten worse over time as well. My husband thought he liked it, but after we went 2 vacations in a row where he woke up with no back pain after sleeping on mattresses in nice hotels- and one night in a regular business class hotel when we went to see his daughter when she was having a baby, he realized the bed is definitely what's been causing his back pain. My husband is on the heavy side (~250 lbs) and I fluctuate between 105 - 113. The side support on his side is smashed out terribly. That happened soon after we got it but I didn't realize right away how bad it was. Bottom line: after less than 2 yrs of buying it, I am now actively researching new mattresses as quickly as possible and trying to figure out what to do with this very expensive mistake. Don't know whether to just trash it, give it away or what.

Wonderful sleep.

Bed is the best we have ever had. Very comfortable. The twenty year warranty is very impressive. Mr. Long made a trip to our home to insure we had the very best service possible . Personally checked the mattress for us. Periodically stays in touch with us to check for any problems. This is very much appreciated! Jack and Linda Kelly

save your money no customer service dont trust service techs

We had to wait for over 1month for service when tech finally came to service he tried to steal part of our mattress, saying that we were missing a part. found the part rolled up in paper and stuffed in a box that he was trying to leave with, we reported him to management and they would not do anything and kept stalling a new service call. This is by far the worst customer service we have ever experienced. I would not even recommend this bed to my worst enemy.

No support and base off gasses like crazy.

No one will tell me what the base is made of, it's some sotr of polymer, don't know if it uses recycled materials, but it smells bad. Additionally, every time the bed expels air, it also smells bad and is noisy. The bed does not offer any support for my lower back, and I have to continually adjust it if I want to go from sleeping on my side to my back.

Great Bed: It's Lasted Longer Than My Marriage!

We bought this as an impulse buy as we had remodeled our home and wanted to put our traditional king size bed in the guest room. We bought a king size bed and it was fantastic because we could customize our settings, etc., which was a huge plus. Additionally, the first few years it was just wonderfully comfortable. Then, I started to develop back and hip pain that continued to increase but the bed still provided a good night's rest. By the time the doctors at the Mayo Clinic discovered a childhood birth defect began growing again in my lates 40s, my Sleep Number bed became the only place I wasn't in constant pain. I now have a pain management doctor and am on full disability and often have days where I only move with great difficulty or sometimes even have to stay in bed most of the day, my Sleep Number Bed is still my most comfortable place to sleep. I've replaced the pillow topper in 2013 and need to do it again soon. Replacement parts/features are expensive on disability and they have no discount programs to help with costs whatsoever but one friend's doctor wrote her a prescription for her bed and her health insurance paid for it.

read the small print.

We have had the sleep for 6 years and it then stopped filling and keeping the air in. We called customer service to come out and fix it and they said I had to buy a new compresser. It would take 2 weeks to get then we would have to call customer service to set up a time to install it which would be another 2 weeks total of 1month. Our bed was concave. I told them I could not sleep like this for a whole month which they replied, sorry. That is how it works. Plus I would have to pay $500. I said I thought it had a guarantee.Oh no they said we have had it too long. We could not wait for a whole month without a bed so we had to go out and buy another bed. They have terrible customer service. If you by this bed read the small print on the guarantee. The biggest mistake we made was to buy this bed.
