Disappointed Once I Got It Home

Just like most other reviewers, I was extremely disappointed when I got the mattress home, and found out it wasn't as nearly as plush and comfortable as the store model in the showroom. I guess CMG produces a special, high quality showroom mattress to "trick" buyers into falling in love with their mattress in the store like I did. I even went back to the store the next day to make sure they gave me the right model. Unfortunately they did. I'm going to return this mattress before I notice any sagging or defects that other reviewers have noticed, and switch to a name brand (Simmons, Stearns & Foster, Sealy) mattress. I was going to wait for the apparent "break in" period they say mattresses have (whether that's true or not IDK), but it appears this mattress stays firmer than what you expected to buy.

Hi Mike-- Our showroom models are no different than the beds that we produce for customers -- they go down the same line through the same people and processes and are treated exactly the same. You will find with any mattress brand that the showroom model often feels different than the new bed that you will receive. Many many MANY people have sat, laid, rolled, etc on the floor models, and waiting through the break in period will help your mattress adjust to your body and give it time to become more like the showroom bed that you tried out and loved. We're sorry that you had a less than stellar experience, and we hope that you'll rethink your decision and give your Radiant the time it needs to break in!

No Durability: Carolina Mattress Guild Caress King Mattress

The mattress delivered to our home never really measured up to the comfort of the one we "tested" in Rooms To Go. From Day #1 (3yrs ago) it was much firmer than the store model. Soon there after the both my wife's and my side of the bed started to sag. We lived with this for the past 2 yrs. I didn't really realize how much this mattress was causing my body soreness until I slept on our old queen in the spare bedroom. We are not heavy people (130 and 175lbs). Heading out to buy a new mattress and it WON'T BE from Carolina Mattress Guild.

Hi Doug, We're so sorry to hear about your experience! We take notices like this very seriously and want to work with you to resolve your problem the best we can. Your situation is *not* typical in the least -- have you contacted Rooms to Go about your problem? If you only purchased your Caress three years go, you should still be covered by the manufacturer's warranty. If you call them and let them know what's going on, Rooms to Go is able to send a representative out to check out the mattress and, if it qualifies as a defect, they will replace it at no cost to you. Please let us know what we can do for you. We're here to help make things right! Hilary Dentler Marketing and Sales Support

So far so good

I purchased my carress matress at RTG 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately, they did not have this particular model in store so I was very nervous when I purchased this. The person helping me did not know a lot about the mattress and was feeding me a line so I went home and researched. I was afraid of all the negative feedback I was reading but decided to give it a try. I'm hoping it does soften up a little but over all it's comfortable. I like the more plush fall into a cloud feel but my back can't take it. I would reccomend this mattress and hoping to break it in a little more to get it just right! I've had many problems with mattresses sagging (3 to be exact over the last 6 yrs) so I'm really hoping this one doesn't. I wish there were more reviews available for people who have owned theirs for a while so I can see how much it will settle and so forth. Overall, I'm hoping this was a great purchase!!

Hi Tara, We're so happy to hear that you're positive about the purchase of your Caress! Hopefully it turns out to be a great one for you. We completely understand your guarded optimism, it must be hard to put your trust in a bedding company after the experiences that you've had. Remember, if your bed does start to sag or display any sort of manufacturer's defect that you're uncomfortable with, go back to Rooms to Go. They will send a representative out to look at your mattress and if it is a true defect, they will take care of replacing it for you at no cost to you. We don't think you'll have that problem, though! Enjoy your new mattress! Hilary Dentler Marketing and Sales Support

Best Bed Yet

I purchased this bed from Rooms to Go in Knoxville. I laid on several beds there, and when I laid on the Essence, I knew this was for me. Then of course, I read bad reviews after the purchase and thought, another company that makes a product that deteriorates quickly with typical use. I've had the bed for almost a month and the bed is better now with a little break-in than it was in the store. I'm very pleased with the bed. I've slept on some great mattresses in the past and I can say this is really a terrific bed. I will be buying another one for my guest room. And in 10 years, when I've worn this mattress out, I'll be buying another one as long as the company doesn't change the mattress. Bottom-line, I'm skeptical and critical of companies methods of selling sub-standard products at premium prices - this is one company I feel that does care about it's reputation and products and it shows in the workmanship and quality. Thank you Carolina Mattress - the bed is a great value.

Compaines Customer Service

Can't get anyone from the factory to contact us about the problem, as you can see we have made 3 attempts. Contact info is in the letter we sent. Armon Royal Boiling Springs, South Carolina 29316 April 28, 2012 Neal and Kathy Grigg 385 North Drive and Business 85 Thomasville, NC 27360 Dear Sir and Madam: In late February or early March my wife and I bought a queen and a king size Platinum Series limited edition mattress set from Furniture Warehouse in Welford, South Carolina, made by the Carolina Mattress Guild that you two own. As it had been a long time since we had bought any mattresses we took our time selecting the right one. We were told these mattresses were the finest money could buy and the comfort was that of much more expensive mattress sets on the market. We had to wait a week for Furniture Warehouse to order the queen mattress set. During that time I looked up your company on the net and after reading your comments about the Platinum Series my wife and I were sure our money was well spent. Here is the statement you have on your web site about the Platinum Series limited edition: “The Platinum Series of limited edition mattress sets celebrates twenty years of quality, customer service, design, and comfort in three luxurious comfort profiles. Our Platinum Series sleep sets are designed to provide fundamental comfort...something special to our beds that you'll feel immediately when you lay down on them.” After the mattresses were delivered, setup and after we had slept on them for a week, we could not figure out why we were not rested after a nights sleep. Our backs started giving us problems we didn't have before and we were not getting any rest. My wife contacted the ones we bought the mattress from and stated our problem, and they stated they could not do anything about it. I then went on your web site and sent you an e-mail explaining the problem, and did not get any response from your company. Next I called your customer service and I was told by the lady I spoke with that “comfort is not a service problem.” After spending over $1,100 for the king set and $900 for the queen set, comfort is what we though we were getting when we spent that much for a mattress. For some reason when laying on the pillow top set we got, we feel as though we are going to role off the bed. My wife tells me this letter is a waste of time. Even so, I think you should know about your product and companies customer service that you are so proud of. Is there any way possible that the mattresses could be returned to you and the pillow tops removed and replaced with a regular top? We will be anxiously waiting to hear from you. Yours truly, Armon R. Royal As of this date 5/14/2012, still no contact form the company.

This customer was replied to and informed that their mattress warranty from the retailer did not cover comfort guarantees or sleep trial periods. They have been responded to by both their local retailer, and the factory regarding the coverage of their warranty as it pertains to theirr comfort issue. We continue to advise customers that purchase a mattress to insure they spend adequate time at the retail facility testing the mattress adequately before purchasing. This involves spending between 15 and 30 minutes lying on the mattress with the end users pillow or similar to determine if there are any hot spots of pain or inadequate support along the length of their body. If the retailer does not offer a comfort guarantee, and the mattress has no observable or objectively measurable defects, there is little that can be done after the fact. We canot accept a mattress that has been slept on by end users for refurbishment, or reconstruction. To date, we have manufactured thousands of the Anniversary edition series with no complaints on file on par with the one mentioned above. This customer continues to post this email and complaint despite having been addressed by both the original retailer, and our factory.

Perfect Sleep - CMG Caress

It's been about 2 months since we purchased our CMG Caress (King) from RTG. I do have to say after reading some of the negative reviews I was paranoid for the first month constantly asking my wife, "do you think it's sagging on my side", all the while I was having perfect nights sleeps. I'm a due diligence person and I read everything there is to read on memory foam, latex, etc., and what made the Caress so attractive was the "value" cost compared to a name brand memory foam/latex mattress. I'm 6'1 200 lbs (lower back problems) and my wife is 5'8 140 and we both find the mattress to be firm yet very supportive and comfortable. Folks, memory foam/latex mattress do get body impressions and conform to your body - thus my constant monitoring for the first month and after reading about people stating they "sunk" into the bed and couldn't roll over. Both our sides have conformed to our sleeping positions dropping about 1/2 inch in our mattress' case. Note: My old 12 year old Spring Air reversible mattress (which we loved), dropped 2 plus inches - so for me,this is a considerable adjustment to a firmer mattress. The Caress provides me enough support that it's helped me considerably waking up from lower back pain, and the top layer is the perfect comfort that you don't feel like you are sleeping on a board. In moving to memory foam you will be amazed at how little motion you feel when your bed mate moves..frankly with our bed it's hard to tell when my wife gets out of bed. Lastly, the bed temperature is much cooler than our coil spring mattress, a big plus during the Dallas summer months. My only concern (although minor), is about the warranty. CMG states that if the mattress is not sold with their foundation the limited warranty is void. This is contrary to what RTG advertises on their web site and what our sales person told us. Our bed frame (purchased at the same time at RTG), does not support a foundation and has a center support with slats about every two inches. On top of the slats are two padded and covered bunky boards. In my 50 years on earth I've never returned a mattress and the odds on me paying $200 freight for returned shipping is pretty slim. That being said, I wish CMG would tailor their warranty policy like their larger S competitors to state alternative foundation requirements. I highly recommend the Caress Mattress - it has the same feel as the unit we tested at the showroom and we were very satisfied with both CMG and RTG.

Don't waste $1500.00

We purchased this mattress from RTG and the salesales staff were helpful and pleasant. She also highly recommend this product and it was all american made. We've never spent this much on a mattress but we thought it was worth it.  We noticed right away that it was more firm than the one at the store and after the first few nights my wife called the the salesperson and she said it would soften up after a week or two and there was no returning it. I like firm and I found it very comfortable but after a few weeks the mattress never softened up, but my wife  said she felt like she was sleeping on a piece of plywood.   I'm 6' 160lbs, my wife 5 9' 120lbs and this mattres had be come more uncorfortable than our previous 9 years old King Koil. She started complaining of her back aching every morning and the longer we had it then my back started to ache. The pain would wake meup in the middle of the night when I was trying to turn over. My wife went and bought a $200 memory foam top from Bed Bath n Beyond but that only helped a little. Thus after 7 months we could no longer stand the suffering of this horrible piece of garbage and purchased a new mattress from a different store. Buyer be warned... For those reviews that say they find this mattress comfortable it's probably only because they have owned it for less than 3 or 4 months. I very seldom write reviews much less a negative one but I don't have the money to waste and so am hoping to save someone else the same mistake and $1500.  My wife and I feel like buying a mattress is a scam, that the floor models are much better made to sell, and the ones you get delivered have less support and padding.  They never feel as good as the one in the store.

The workers literally have no idea what a showroom order is, or whether a bed is headed towards someone's home. It is rare that an older showroom model softens up over time, especially if thousands of people have laid on it over the period of a year or more. We would be willing to send a representative to the Rooms to Go store that you purchased your mattress at, and have them test the softness of the bed vs. a standard bed (they would know if the bed was too soft immediately). If they find that's the case, we would work with RTG to ship you a new mattress right away and rectify the problem. Please contact me at mlydick@carolinamattressguild.com, or at 336 476 1333x240 so that I can get your information and proceed accordingly. We're committed to your satisfaction, and your comfort experience. As you can imagine comfort and feel are a personal measurement though, but we should be able to quickly determine if the floor sample has gone "soft" and get you taken care of. I look forward to hearing back from you - Michael

Worst purchase ever

I bought this mattress in Alexandria VA in 9/10.  14 months later, I'm just throwing it away.  When I asked me daughter if she thought if I could sell it online, she just laughed. For the last 3 or 4 months, it's been useless.  When I first had it, I got a wonderful night's sleep every night.  Alas, after about six months, it sagged badly in places (initially on one edge, later in the center).  The sagging got worse and worse.  The "warranty" requires you to ship the mattress back to them, which costs about $200.  Great, throw more money away.  I've owned a lot of mattresses over the years (I'm 62); this one gets my vote as the worst, ever.  In fact, among substantial household purchases of any kind, it's the single worst product I've ever owned.  It's just too bad they do not have a zero-star category for things like durability.

Hi Jim, Getting the mattress back to the company at your expense is an avenue that you could have taken, however it is not the only one, and no literature that we provide says that. If you were told that was your only option, it was not by us. Thank you for your time and opinions! Hilary Dentler

Do Not Buy Caress!

Do not buy the Caress Mattress from Rooms to Go. We made that mistake about 2 months ago and still have not received the mattress. They've tried to deliver the wrong mattress (embrace, which is $400 less) twice and the other time they delivered a torn mattress. After hours on the phone with customer service, nothing has been done to fix the situation. I just want to save anyone else the huge headache! I did notify Carolina Mattress Guild of Rooms to Go's issues and how it reflects poorly on them but it appears like they are unable to get their resailers to act fairly either.

Awful!

My daughter ordered a bed that was supposed to be for someone with fibromyalgia. The one we laid on was wonderful the bed delivered was not the bed we laid on. This bed says firm it is not it is mushy you lay on it and end up down on the glorified bunky board they call a box springs that broke one week after she got it. This was not a bed that would conform after a period of time it fell to the bunky board from day one. It is the most horrible bed I have ever tried to lay on and it cost her every dime she had saved 500 big ones. Of course the company that made the bed passed the buck as did the place it was purchased which was THE BED STORE in Knoxville Tn
