A relative went into this store to purchase a queen size bed. She paid with a check and cash. They told her they would have to hold the check until it clears the bank. I do understand the purpose of this procedure. She went in on Monday and paid. On Wednesday she called on the phone to see if the check had cleared. She was informed the check cleared and the mattress was in stock. She informed them she would be in the store on Friday afternoon. She arrived at the store around 4:00 P.M. on Friday and was informed the mattress was not there and there was nothing he could do for her. He told her to contact the manager the originally sold her the mattress, who would be there on Saturday. I went to the store on Saturday to get a refund for the mattress and was informed of a 20% cancellation fee to cancel the order. I was informed it was not the stores fault that the mattress was not there when she arrived at 4:00 p.m. on Friday she should have called first. I said fine take out the 20% and give me the refund. I was then informed the store could not give me cash for the refund because a check was originally written. My response was you waited till the check cleared the bank and money was in your bank account and you want to write me a check on Saturday and 10:00 a.m. and the banks close at noon, so the check will not be able to be cashed until Monday. He said yes. Then he informed me I would have to drive to the other side of town to get the check. The policies of “Mattress One” is designed to get money from you one way or the other, no matter if the customer is at fault or not. I found out later this company was under a different name that went bankrupt and changed their name to Mattress One. You would think they would have learned a lesson the first time. The mattress was in the store on Saturday. The manager did not even ask what he could do to make this right, I had to ask what we could do to make this right, and I had to ask for a free bed frame. They originally wanted to charge her $79 dollars for a bed frame. The manager also supplied me with a mattress cover. He said he could not have it delivered to the house. It seems to me if you want to keep your customers happy, you would not put them through this kind of ordeal. I will not ever step foot in a “Mattress One” store ever again.
