Amazing thick mattress but still breaking in

The value factor of the Ikea Holmsbu is remarkable -- its 17.5 inches thick with three separate layers of springs plus gel memory foam, all for less than $800. Comparably thick mattresses from other manufacturers cost thousands. It is so thick I did have to buy new fitted sheets which I didn't anticipate, plus I had to buy a new box spring that was shorter because my old one was too tall (I eventually chose the Ikea Espevar base with the short legs because it was shorter and solid pine, to support this very heavy mattress -- plus it is cheaper than other box springs out there, when counting shipping). The mattress is comfortable, however its a bit firm while the top layer of memory foam breaks in. I have had it for about two weeks and its still pretty firm -- in the store the top layer of memory foam is pretty noticeable but on my new bed its still really firm. Also the mattress is so massive that it comes from the factory completely wrapped in a thick, zippered fabric cover with sturdy fabric handles sewn in. This helps to safely lift, move and position the mattress. Basically it's a free mattress protector. I am therefore leaving the mattress zippered up in this bag, at least until I can find another protector to put on top.

After several years, the mattress is hard and saggy

When I first got the mattress, I slept well, but it didn't seem to last as long as the pillowtop innerspring mattress we had before.

Great support.

Right amount of cushioning on firm mattress. Just what I wanted. Too bad it is discontinued. I would buy another for the guest room.

Terrible Mattess, Avoid!

I have had this mattress for about 4.5 months. It was fine for the first few months but had become unbearably uncomfortable within the last month. my last mattress was an inexpensive IKEA foam which was very comfortable and I used for 9 years. My boyfriend also had an IKEA Hansbro which I was very comfortable in. This mattress was fine for first several months but had just totally changed this past month - so uncomfortable for me as a stomach sleeper and my boyfriend who is a back and side sleeper.

I liked it better out of the bag

I have had this mattress (spring version) for two or three months - plenty of time to break it in. To be honest, I liked it much better right out of the bag. It is not a rolled mattress - comes full sized in a well-packaged bag. It was firm but supportive....until it broke in. I had no back or neck pain at all during the break-in period and now I wake up every morning with some pain and stiffness. I'm bummed. Did a lot of research before buying. The memory foam mattress may be a better option, but I don't know if I'm going to go there. At least the return policy is great.

Good for renters.

I've had to move a lot recently and dont have any aches and pains that require a specialty mattress, so this bed is ideal for me. I've had it for almost a year. I like the firmness, liked the price, and appreciate the clean lines that go well with my design style and require less floor space than beds with bulky headboards, etc. And even though it's solidly constructed and a queen-sized bed, I am still able to move it easily enough by myself. One day, when i put down roots permanently again, I'll probably buy another adjustable sleep number, but for my needs right now, this bed has turned out to be a really good buy...which surprised me, since it's an Ikea.

Horrible mattress for back pain

I wake up with pain in my lower back, and during the night I wake up seven to ten times during the night trying to find a comfortable spot. Finally decided to spend the money on a Macy's Beautyrest. My advice: buy the best mattress you can afford. Skimping on this purchase does not pay in the long.

Good bed, great price

I've only had this bed for a couple of months but have had a solid night's sleep since I bought it. For the price, it's a really good bed. Coupled with IKEA's bed frame, I'm also pleased that I didn't need to buy a box spring which made this even more affordable. The one issue I have is that when I tried it in the store, the pillow top was MUCH softer than when I brought it home. It's still comfortable but would have preferred what I tested in the showroom. Maybe it's just that 2,000 people haven't laid on it throughout the day ... only time will tell lol

This is a Great Mattress

I love this mattress. I got it for me when my husband was snoring too loudly, for my grandson when he visits, for other guests. Everyone has been comfortable sleeping on it and it has maintained its firmness and comfort for 4 years now
