OEKO-TEX Standard 1000
The OEKO-TEX Standard 1000 is an independent testing, auditing and certification system to ensure environmentally or socially responsible production practices.
Standard 1000 auditing and testing is done on a company's overall production process, rather than on specific components or finished products. In practice, the OEKO-TEX Standard 1000 logo means that a company has been certified to manufacture its products under the OEKO-TEX Standard 1000 for environmental friendliness. While OEKO-TEX Standard 1000 does not focus on testing for harmful substances in specific products (as does OEKO-TEX Standard 100), certification under Standard 1000 does require that at least 30% of the company's products be certified according to Standard 100.
The requirements for certification under Standard 1000 include all operationally relevant areas (management, production technologies, use of resources, quality assurance, safety precautions, social working conditions etc.) in its examination of sustainability. The company must be inspected by an independent auditor from OEKO-TEX International - Association for the Assessment of Environmentally Friendly Textiles. The Standard 1000 certificate is valid for three years and can be renewed upon request.
The OEKO-TEX test and certification system is centrally issued by the International Association for Research and Testing in the Field of Textile Ecology, headquartered in Switzerland. Its members are independent and accredited facilities for textile testing and research in Europe and Japan.
