Eco Institut is an independent testing, analysis and certification program for manufacturers across a wide range of products, including mattresses, bedding, furniture, building materials, floor coverings, and consumer goods.  The eco-INSTITUT certification label is awarded to low-emission and low-pollutant products.

Eco Institut performs lab testing on individual components of the mattress, including the inner spring, latex, foam (viscoelastic and other polyurethane), and textiles.  In practice, the Eco Institut logo means that a specific mattress model contains at least some material that has been certified by Eco Institut.  The eco-INSTITUT label is NOT an indication of natural or organic status.

Eco Institut testing includes:

• Emission analysis in the test chamber (according to ISO 16000)
• Content analysis (for heavy metals, AOX/EOX, biocides, phthalates, and flame retardants)
• Odor testing (according to VDA)
• Toxicological and ecological evaluation

Eco Institut provides certification according to the criteria of the eco-INSTITUT label, Blue Angel (RAL-UZ 38/117/119/130/148), or QUL (Quality Asociation for Environmentally-Agreeable Latex mattresses). 

Eco Institut certification is an independent program that is part of UL Environment, one of the five business unit of UL (Underwriters Laboratories).  Eco Institut was acquired by UL in 2012.
