GoodBed Expert Review
Our Take on Emma Shift
Founder of GoodBed, Leading Mattress Expert
- Want a medium-firm mattress (i.e., just a little firmer than average)
- Are either a back or stomach sleeper, especially if you weigh 200 lb or less
- Need the flexibility to adjust the comfort level of your mattress from time to time
- Sleep with a partner who requires a different comfort level on their side of the bed
- Prefer a slightly above average amount of 'memory feel'
- Enjoy sleeping 'on' your mattress while being just a little hugged or cradled
- Weigh 225 lb or more, especially if you sleep on your stomach
- Like a fair bit of bounce in your mattress
- Have a strong tendency to sleep hot (temperature regulation is OK, but not the best)
- May use this mattress on an adjustable base (adjustable base compatibility isn't the best, but is still OK)
- Regularly sit or sleep along the edge of your bed (edge support is good, but not the best)

Yes, the Emma Shift mattress is adjustable base compatible. This means it is designed to be used on an adjustable base without incurring damage or voiding the warranty. In our review of this mattress, we tested it on an adjustable base to look for any adverse effects as the head and foot are elevated, and to see how well it conforms to the contours of the base both with and without the weight of a sleeper. Overall, we found the Emma Shift to have ok adjustable base compatibility.

General Description
With the customizable Emma Shift mattress, you can adjust the firmness or softness to every imaginable level until you find what’s perfect for you. What’s even better is that you and your partner can have different firmness levels on both sides of the mattress, controlled by your own individual Smart Valves. This Smart Valve allows you to shift the internal pressure of the mattress whenever you want to.
The cover that’s plush and moisture-wicking
- The Emma cover is cool-to-touch, making it very comfortable to lie on.
The cool foam layer that isolates motion
- Graphite and Titanium Visco-elastic foam that keeps you cool and helps your body move effortlessly and roll over easily while you sleep.
The layer with supporting points
- The Shift Core is a layer of large pore foam with an internal pressure that is controlled by body weight, allowing the mattress to be made harder or softer for specific areas of the body.
Smart Valve technology for adjustable comfort
- The Smart Valve is a control system that allows you to manually adjust the firmness or softness of the mattress infinitely and without using energy or electricity.
The base foam that keeps your spine aligned
- Durable comfort foam provides fundamental support.
The edge of the mattress with added support
- A reinforced perimeter at the head and foot of the bed helps you sit up and get out of bed in the morning.
