The Purple - Overrated

I had high hopes for the Purple. I was particularly interested because of the claims that it sleeps cooler. I have a Puffy and a Purple. The Puffy wins hands down. The motion transfer on the Purple is HORRIBLE. I do admit it does sleep cooler and that is the only reason I'm hanging on to it for now.

Terrible Customer Service

This isn't about the bed so much as it's about the value and the customer service experience. I purchased one of these mattresses last year, and then donated it when I moved to another state. I decided - big mistake - to purchase another one. The delivery process was opaque and the entire customer service experience was godawful. I got things that I didn't pay for; I didn't get things I paid for. It took more than 4 weeks to get the mattress, in stark contrast to the estimates given to me by the rep when I ordered it. Moreover, when I checked to see when it might arrive, it couldn't be tracked on the site ("pending"). I reached out to their reps for an update, and I was told, "Oh, it will arrive by October 21st! Not to worry!" Then, when I continued to check in with the delivery providers about when it might arrive, I was told that they would get it after that date, and then it would be delivered on the 30th of October at the earliest. A 9-day difference, for a monthlong wait overall. I contacted Purple and explained to them that they might want to tighten up their system, and they said, "Oh no, we meant that it would make it to the delivery warehouse by then." Okay, so if you're thinking that a reasonable person could've been confused, you're wrong. I asked when my mattress would be delivered, asked for an ETA, and they said it would be delivered (not to the warehouse, they didn't mention the warehouse in their reply) by the 21st. Utter garbage. So, I move to another state for a new job and get myself an Airbnb for a short while because I'm expecting the mattress to arrive soon, because that's what I'd been led to believe, and then I transition to sleeping on my own floor (because I'm a minimalist and don't see much point in buying or even borrowing an air mattress), and wait it out. Just unacceptable. Incompetent. Misleading. There are several other issues, including the delivery of stuff that wasn't on my order sheet, and the lack of the "white glove" service, though I paid for it.

Ouch / too soft for this back sleeper

We recently got the Purple 3 after trying the Purple original for 90 days, but my partner thought it the original Purple wasn't firm enough. (We got this as a cooler option from the Tempurpedic -- memory foam supposedly makes the sleepers run hot; I'm always cold and I even thought so.) I preferred the Purple 2 in the showroom, he preferred the 4, so our compromise was the 3. My lower back experiences pain now (similar to when we had the Tempurpedic but NOT when we had the original Purple). I had thought my weight (< 125 lbs) wouldn't notice a difference in softer beds but I guess my hips just don't feel like there is ANY spinal support. We're not considering other options....

Different kind of feel for a different kind of sleep

After watching 2 different review sources on youtube (Goodbed and "The slumber yard") I decided I needed to try out this bed myself. Previously I had been sleeping on an innerspring mattress and before that, I had memory foam. I hated the sensation of memory foam but felt that innerspring was not is comfortable. After trying out Purple at Macy's I knew I had to give it a test at home. The first thing I will say is that the feel is different. the square grid is easily identifiable if you press into the mattress but because of the softness and way it collapses it doesn't feel like there are pockets of air in between the squares. so after a little bit of time, (Should be well within the return period), you won't even notice the square grid while you sleep. I sleep without a T-shirt so I can attest that this is the case even with the skin to bedsheet contact. The feeling is difficult to describe but I would say its almost akin to sleeping on a square of soft rubber. The movie Flubber comes to mind, The part of the mattress you sleep on is collapsible and squishable but it doesn't just immediately collapse and does require a reasonable amount of pressure to trigger. As a 180lbs man, lying on my back I can barely feel like I'm sinking at all but it doesn't feel hard. If you like extremely supportive feeling but a soft sensation I would encourage you to give this a try. Side sleeping is very good. You barely feel the depth change and there is almost no change in pressure sensation. Stomach sleeping is also okay however I will say that it does feel awkward at the feet as it doesn't collapse easily so you may Plantarflex more than you'd like to and stretch your ankle. The mattress is marketed as being friendly for hot sleeper. I would say this mattress is temperature neutral. The mattress itself doesnt actually seem to cause me to sleep hot or heat up as im just lying on it during the day. However, the Comforter/blanket/sheets/pillows you use at night can make a huge difference

DO NOT BUY PURPLE MATTRESS!

I bought a purple mattress in 2017. For the first year, the mattress was perfect (I also got purple platform base, purple sheets, purple pillow, purple EVERYTHING). Then it started to develop permanent sagging spots. By the second year, the sagging spots got so bad that I ended up with back spasms and spent hundreds on doctor visits and pain medication. I was able to get the mattress replaced due to their 10-year warranty, but replacing that heavy mattress is such a pain. If you don't mind suffering back pain every 2 years, going through the warranty process, and physically replacing your mattress over and over again, then this is the mattress for you. If you don't want to put up with all that hassle, then DO NOT buy this mattress. I have extreme buyers' remorse, but I have to make the most of my situation. If I had to review this mattress after 1 month, 5 stars. After 3 months, 5 stars. After 1 year, 5 stars. After that, it's been a slow descent towards a sleepless nightmare. I ultimately gave them 2 stars because AT LEAST I could invoke warranty. $1200 for a king size mattress that only lasts less than 2 years? No thanks. Don't believe me? I challenge you to find reviews for this mattress from people that used it every night for 2 years and see what they have to say. Also I'm about 185 lbs, so it's not like I was anywhere close to exceeding the weight limit for the bed.

Partner and I are side-sleepers - not for us.

Buying and unboxing the mattress was a pretty easy experience, but lying on it - not so much. My boyfriend and I are both 130 - 150 pounds and we feel that this mattress is way too firm for us. We’re side sleepers and our shoulders were always sore. Even lying on my back, perfectly good pillows did not feel like they were giving any neck support (we do not have the purple pillows). The hips do sink in a bit, but not much. We’re on the hunt for a new mattress, and we’re going to end up saving money in the end, as all other mattresses that fit our goodbed profile are way cheaper than the Purple.3!

Don’t the same mistake I did.

I had this Purple Mattress for about 9 months now and the first 6 months its was heaven, super comfortable, amazing but after the 6 or 7 month I start it to get up with back pain and sore neck to the point that I couldn’t even walk because of the pain. I contacted the warranty and they made so difficult to replaced email after email because that’s the only way to talk to the warranty service. Anyway at the end they said that I need it a better frame and that the frame that I had for years the same one where the bed was now it’s not recommended to use with this mattress, of course they wanted me to buy their frame. I’m so mad that we couldn’t get my mattress fix and now I just lose $1,000 dollars just like that in basically half of year. It sucks and I decided to write any review that I can so people can see the true. Of course if read reviews from people that try the mattress everything it’s going to feel great but for this type of mattress make sure you talk to people that have this mattress and use every night for at least 7-8 months, there’s when you can really know the truth. I hope my review save your money. Att. Enrique V

Weird but comfortable.

Pros: works as advertise the relief of pressure points. Much better than my previous regular spring mattress. Specially for side and back support. Cons: it do get the sinking or saggy where you sleep. Good thing is not as bad as regular mattresses.
