I was blinded by my desire for an organic mattress

Delivered as expected, rolled up. Smelled a little of a farm but I was aware of this from previous reviews. At first, the mattress felt supportive and soft with the plush top. After a few months later we found the mattress too firm and also felt like the edges were not supportive and lead to a smaller feeling surface area. My husband is 6'7" and 250lb, I am 5'6" and 130lb. Avocado was happy to send us a pillow top at a discount of 40%. That still left us with over $500 out of pocket. We decided to wait and see if we could get used to the mattress. We became more uncomfortable and reached out again. CS was more difficult to reach. No number to call, you use a chat or wait for email or call. One chat took over an hour and they no longer would offer 40% but 10%. After much complaining, I was given the topper at the 40% discount. We bought the alpaca topper due to husbands concern with latex allergy. The topper was beautiful quality, heavy, dense, and again a stronger farm smell. It took some months for the smell to diminish but was still present when sleeping on stomach. It also seemed to make the mattress surface area seem even smaller the way it curved down. During regular rotation, I pulled mattress protector and cover off to find an enormous amount of alpaca hair all over our perfect mattress, sheets, etc. I vacuumed for over an hour. A few months later, same thing. And we still weren't sleeping any better. Chatted w/ CS again through the chat, we tried the warranty return d/t notable indentation in middle of mattress and to get rid of the alpaca topper. We did not have "enough" of an indent to warrant return, and if we did, they replace not refund. We had to photo topper, prove donation to get refund. Now have daily pain, kinked necks, sore hips. Feels even more firm and we are shopping for a new bed.

nice feel, but back pain

Decided to try the avocado green mattress with pillow top because it was rated #1 on consumer reports and my in-laws love there's. The mattress feels nice and well made and has a nice bounce to it. However I was waking up with hip pain, avocado was happy to send out a 1" topper to try to make it softer. This helped with the hip but now I am waking up with pain in my back and knees. The company has no # to call, they will not respond to my emails or chat enless I pretend to be a new customer. This has me furious.

Beautiful mattress, just not right for me

this mattress is really a work of art. It looks beautiful with the unbleached cotton cover (I got the vegan) and even smells great. I really love it. But, it's completely uncomfortable. I fall asleep on my back and move to my side in the early morning. My shoulders hurt and my back does too. Also, my neck hurts unless I stop using my pillow and just use a rolled up blanket under my head instead. I don't want to return it b/c I still love it, but I have to. I wish they made a softer bed (I tried the mattress alone, and the mattress with both the firm and plush topper - I then tried a memory foam gel topper (YUCK) and a featherbed (extremely painful after a few nights) - nothing worked.) I bought a Keetsa Tea Leaf Classic, which is too firm (and will return), but discovered that the bed is pretty good with the Avocado topper (even the firm) on top - that's the best I've slept in the last year (I discovered that a little bit of good quality and not too soft memory foam is okay for me). But I'm still going to look for a mattress that's a better fit than either the Avocado or the Keetsa. Maybe a Saatva Lux Firm or a Next Alexander Hybrid Lux Firm. Will be very sad to see the Avocado go, however. The Avocado customer service is great. I still highly recommend the Avocado if you sleep on your back and like a firm bed (or if you're more than 150 pounds)

Sad Shoulders

We got the pillow top believing that it would be a plush top. No. It's just a soft top on a pretty firm bed. I do like the support, but I'm a side sleeper and have had SO MUCH shoulder pain since I got this bed. My lower back and hips don't hurt as much because the support is good. But, my shoulders hurt all day, now, and they BURN while I'm sleeping. We've experienced excellent customer service up to this point, but we're getting ready to take advantage of the 100 night sleep trial and return it. I feel sad about it. I love the idea of organic mattresses, hand made in the USA, but my shoulders are way more sad than I am, so it must go.

Numb and misleading

We purchased the pillow top king. The mattress seems pretty good but we have both had more numbness in our arms. The mattress also caused our box springs to start squeaking then I found out from Avocado that you can’t use a normal box springs which they did not make clear at all.

Hi Bob, Thanks so much for your review. My apologies for the lack of clarity around using a boxspring. It definitely can be used, but can be a tad bouncy, as you mentioned. In general we recommend an unyeilding, supportive surface like a platform bed or even an adjustable one. You could also get a "bunky board" to place in-between your mattress and the boxpsring to cut down on bounce. While it can take a few weeks to get used to a new mattress, we'd love to hear from you if you are still unhappy, so we can make it right! little firm

good for me little firm for wife a combo sleeper and lighter than me. wish avocado would send a topper instead of recommending a place to purchase one.the green mattress would be perfect if it had one more inch of latex on top. the springs are nice build is very good seems to me at this price it should have more than 2 inches of latex in comfort layer

Hot......

I have been trying out mattresses and doing alot of research. I thought since the avocado mattress was reported to be organic, firm and breathable that I would be able to sleep well. I am menopausal and sleeping cool is so important to me. I am very disappointed since all the reviews are glowing for this particular bed. I think the top layer traps the heat by the type of weave or fiber construction and it feels soft like flannel. Since, I couldn't find any review on this detail....I wanted to report it to see if anybody else had the same experience. I tried to comment about it on the "The Sleep Sherpa" and the comment was declined? The avocado mattress sleeps hot!
