Disastisfied with Carolina Firm Radiant Queen Mattress

After 1 month the bed is sinking in the area that I regularly sleep. Sleepys came and set up the bed frame, box spring and mattress and after just 4 weeks the mattress is already losing firmness and shape and sinking. At 120 lbs. I am not a large or heavy person I am greatly disappointed with the quality and more so with Sleepy's lack of customer support. They have passed my case onto a third party called Mattress Marshals to come and do an inspection. I am still waiting for them to call me to set the appointment and while I wait I continue to have night after night of uncomfortable rest and aches and pains. I would be more satisfied is Sleepys would be willing to replace the mattress and let me try another one in case this is a lemon but so far they continue to hang up on my calls to customer service and make it very difficult to find any resolution to this problem.

Pros:

User also said: I purchased this mattress because I was looking for an eco-friendly bed.

    Cons:

User also said: After 1 month on new bed there's a visible indent where my body rests and it continues to sink.

I second this review. Do not buy this mattress! The firmness wears off after only a couple of months and you are left with deep impressions in your mattress which results in back pain every morning. Imagine trying to sleep on your stomach when your mattress is now shaped like a hammock. I emailed Carolina mattress guild directly and they never responded.

i have the same problem with mine. bought it in january 2013 and it is sagging so bad in the middle it is not funny. i too get bad back pains from it. i am having someone come out and look at it and i am working through the retailer to get this sorted out. my old 14 yr old sealy was better than this mattress. at this point i can not recommend this mattress. mine is a queen size and i am not a heavy person either.

well they came out and looked at my mattress the other day. they put a string across the bed and measured the sag with no one on it. it was sagging 1/2 of a inch. they said it was within warranty specs. how on earth can you test a mattress out without someone laying on it? it was a bogus test! just a way to get around the real problem. the problem is with the layers of foam under the top layer. so when i lay on the bed my butt sinks in well over 2". i wake every morning with a back ache. so at the moment i am stuck with a piece of junk. the mattress retailer has offered to give a deep discount on a new mattress. how deep? i do not know. what it comes down to is to stay away from this company and do not buy a bed with a foam top or pillow top. the warranty they have on the mattress is worthless!!!!

That mattress warranties aren't worth the paper they are written on shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. And... paying a thousand dollars for a mattress is a fool's endeavor. Going to Sleepy's for a mattress is tantamount to dealing with the charlatans in a car dealership where anyone with a blazer who isn't qualified for anything other than lying to your face is now a mattress expert. Buy a mattress that you can tolerate for no more than a few hundred dollars and change it every three of four years. Make sure you buy it from a place that will take it back without a hassle if you aren't satisfied.

Oh no. We are having the exact same issue with it sagging where our butts and shoulders are (we are side sleepers) We purchased the mattress only 6 months ago. Sleepy's is sending out an inspector in the next 5 to 7 days. Our previous mattress was a Serta Perfect sleeper that we had for 13 years. It didn't sag until the 12th year. I hope Sleepys does right by us. This mattress was a lot of money.

We agree. We bought the mattress set in March 2013 and about one week after delivery we started having problems with side integrity. I fell out of the bed multiple times while sleeping at night onto hard surface floors. The gel mattress also was like sleeping in quicksand. You could not change sides. It was too much of a struggle in the quicksand! Rooms to go came out and did a test on the mattress. After three days they called and said we could come in to pick another mattress. We found one another Simmons like our previous mattress (before the Carolina Firm Radiant ) The Carolina Firm Radiant mattress is one to steer clear from. Please learn from our horrible experience. Oh my aching back!!

Here's another testimony to the poor quality of this mattress. Within a couple of months of purchasing it (King size) we had 2 hammocks with a large hump down the middle of the bed. When we contacted the store, we were told the sag was not great enough to warrant a replacement or any other action on their part. I started rotating the mattress 90 degrees with every bedding change, hoping to balance it out. And, yes, that meant every other week the length of the mattress was turned across the width of the bed. After months of this heavy work, I realized it was futile. I finally put a filler in the sag to try to ease the discomfort. I did one of their silly "sag" tests, myself, using a level from the high center hump. The sag runs between 1 1/4 and 1 3/4 inches. Still trying to find out if this is NOW enough sag to get some customer support. Very disappointed! Wouldn't recommend this mattress at all.

I have had the exact same experience with both Mattress Marshals AND Sleepy's. After just a couple of months it started sagging. MY bed is at the 1 1/2 mark for sagging, and they STILL won't do anything. They're telling ME that it has to be TWO INCHES WORTH OF SAGGING. I too am not a large woman. I asked they guy at the showroom if I now have to wait until it's even MORE uncomfortable. He just shrugged shoulders and mumbled, "I guess......". Disgusting Company. Horrible mattress. Don't buy.

    Official Response

We're so sorry to hear about these issues with the Radiant mattresses. Just so everyone knows, the standard for warrantable impression depth on these models is 1.5" -- if they are requesting that they wait til you have a 2" impression, please send an email to info [at] carolinamattressguild [dot] com explaining your situation so that we can help remedy it and get you the support that you need.

I had Sleepy's mattress examiners come and check out my sagging carolina mattress. When he arrived he looked at the mattress and agreed it was poor quality and it should not be sagging after a few weeks of purchase. He said it was at 1.5" using his string test and it should be replaced. He took many photos from different angles with the measurements visible and assured me the company would give me no hassles in exchanging it. Unfortunately when Sleepy's received the report they changed their policy and said it had to be 2" deep and refused an further assistance to me. Do not ever buy an mattress from Sleepy's. Terrible warranties, terrible customer service. They are the most sleazy.

I have just contacted Carolina Mattress Guild directly as Hilary Pope suggested in the company's official response. I will keep posted of any reply and how they might resolve the situation…..

Since we bought this brand in May 2013 it has been a nightmare!!!! Box spring cracking, waking up at any noise, back pain, itch at contact. I would like to know what type of material is this mattress made of? Mine is a full size bed, no sagging, but I had to put a wood board to ease up my back pains. The waking up due to the noise as caused me to suffer with insomnia, I am irritable all the times and this has put a strain into my life!!! I haven't slept on it for the past 4 months. My husband still complains about it and now he is also itchy. I wish to hear from someone. My email address is camonzo@hotmail.com. Hoping to get a representative from Sleepy to get in touch with me ASAP Carmela

Just curious if anyone here has found Carolina mattress guild customer service helpful or have they replaced your mattress? Sleepys refused our warranty and this is by far the worst customer experience with sleepys declining our warranty after just 18 months. You can see the 2 large sags on our mattress when the bed is made (with down comforter/duvet). Thankfully we have extra bedrooms but being declined warranty is ridiculous with so many complaints!

Totally agree, after a few months our Carolina matress sags. Where I sit and sleep. I had a Sleepy's brand no frills matress before this one and it was fine for 14 years. Obviously, Carolina Matresses are not of great quality and I would never recommend one. Wish I could have my old bed back!

we bought one of these mattresses . the side is sagging very bad where he sleeps and sits. I'm calling the company and see what canbe done. I'll also call The Better Business Burea!II

I hate my mattress. It is bulging out the sides I am going to fall out of my king size unless I sleep in the middle. Sleepy won't warranty it because it has a small stain on the mattress and says that could have caused the damage

I bought mine from Sleepy's in June 14 - Carolina Mattress Guild - Queen. I travel a lot and so have only slept on it for around 9 months. It sags completely in the middle and I have reached the point where I will have to just toss it - I hate getting into bed and wake up with a sore back every morning. Literally prefer sleeping on my sofa. I can't believe how bad this mattress is - stayed in hotels of various quality for around 4-5 months in the last year and a half, and every mattress was nicer to sleep on!

I bought this mattress a year ago and it is an absolute disaster. I have such pain in my back I can hardly walk in the morning. I am wondering if we could file a class action suit as the company has filed for bankruptcy. I am also going to call the Better Business Bureau. I've just ordered a new mattress as I cannot continue with such pain.

these people are right sleepys @carolina mattress are junk chuck alb. ny

Again I highly recommend anyone purchasing a mattress to stay away from sleepys and mattresses manufactured by Carolina Company. I never had a comfortable night sleep on their mattress and never slept through the night. When not at home I slept wonderfully for 7 hours at a time on other mattresses. This brand is not worth the money and sleepys never did anything to help resolve the issue or stand by their warranties. a terrible experience.
