We wanted to purchase a product made in Michigan so we traveled 3 hours to Jonathan Stevens. About 5 years ago I slept on one of their mattresses at the Amway Grand and it was one of the most comfortable mattresses I had ever slept on. Fast forward to 2019 and that model was no longer available. We settled on the salespersons recommendation thinking this mattress would be as comfortable. It was like sleeping on the pavement. We were in so much pain we couldn't sleep, and knew right away this mattress had to be returned. I don't know how 20 min in a showroom could possible replicate night after night of sleeping, so BE SURE you want to keep the mattress because JS fees are steep, many, and pretty much outdated when compared to other mattress companies. There is the $99 exchange fee, and you can only exchange for another mattress once. In our case we had delivery fees of $79 each time(because we had traveled 3hrs to spend our money on Michigan products, we were outside their delivery zone). Not having confidence the next mattress would be any better, and knowing we were racking up fees, we decided to return the mattress and be done. For the privilege of using it for 7 days (it was that bad to sleep on) JS wanted to charge a 20% restocking fee!!! That was ridiculous and I was able to negotiate 15%. All in all it cost us $361 dollars for a 7 day trial from JS. Other mattress companies have 6 month and up to a year of NO CHARGE returns for any reason. We have since purchased, and are completely happy with our latex mattress which was $800 compared to the $2000 JS mattress.
I went to Johnathan Stevens believing they were a reputable company located in Grand Rapids, MI.
I went into the store on 28th St at least 3xs before purchasing the mattress to lay on it and speak to the sales person. I explained my situation with other mattresses (not good), believing they were all 'Just Talk'. He convinced me that the mattress I purchased was a good mattress and should help me to sleep better at night. Well, the first week, yes. Now, maybe 6-7 months since purchasing, I am back to square one. First, the support is no longer there, I feel as though I am sinking and the stiffness/aching feeling in my body is excruciating. Secondly, last night I heard these squeaking noises. I had a bad dream that I woke up and all the bed springs and foam were all around the bed and the only thing I was sleeping on was the fabric of the mattress. A dream or premonition? This Sucks!!!!!!!
The only good thing I can say about Jonathan Stevens is that Peggy and Brenda in customer service were nice.....that's it! We were dissatisfied from the moment the bed was delivered, too high and much too hard. Can't return for 30 days! Then exchanged for a higher priced mattress per their customer satisfaction guarantee (?). When that one was too hard too, they took it back, charging us 30% of the higher priced model. Owner was pompous and rude, no follow up from the original sales person or anyone else. So glad to be done with them. Consider your options before buying from Jonathan Stevens.
We bought this mattress in June 2011, in July, we rotated it and now we have an impression at the foot of the bed, obviously visible through all the bedding. My big concern is, what will it look like a year from now. I'm afraid to rotate again for rear it will get worse. When we purchased this bed we assumed we would be able to have a nice bed for a while. I had dreamed of a nice new bed with no sags in the middle(or anywhere else) now I'm afraid in a short time, it won't be any better than the one we had. $900.00is still a lot of money to us, especially when you feel you have wasted it. I did a lot of looking before we made this purchase, and was getting so confused by all the brands to choose from. I am mad at myself now for my choice.
