When the mattress was delivered, I smelled extremely unpleasant gases that fill the room it was delivered in as well as the whole hallway it was taken through. I let the mattress air out for a week without covering it or sleeping on it and even opened a window and used an air cleaner to no avail. I have had the mattress for three weeks and I still smell the off gasses, although it is not as much. I walk into the bedroom and feel immediate irritation in my nose and have a headache. I have noticed other health issues as well. The bed is comfortable enough to sleep on, but I worry that what is causing the odors can be harmful to my health. I had a memory foam topper in the past that smelled like this mattress and it took a year for the odors to go away.

The mattress I reviewed above was the Sealy Posturepedic "Encourage" model. I reviewed the mattress to warn people who have allergic sensitivities against buying it. The review was not to disparage the store where I bought it. Sleepy's did offer to allow me to exchange it during the 30 day period, but I did not think I could find a mattress that would be satisfactory in that price range and I could not get my money back under their policy. I decided to keep the mattress rather than risk exchanging it and making another mistake.
