Lung irritant

Buyer beware, although the website currently tells you only that they use a "natural thistle fire barrier with a bit of polyester", there IS something else in the fire barrier. I started having lung irritation after taking it out of the plastic and this irritation is consistent with my experiences with other mattresses where the fire barrier was an issue. It is NOT off gassing, it's not fumes, it is an odorless irritant and it doesn't go away. This is exactly what I was trying to avoid by buying this mattress. I e-mailed the company and asked if they used something else in their fire barrier. I asked about silica and I was told there "may" be silica in there and that if I was sensitive I shouldn't buy the mattress. Why not disclose this in the first place and avoid this nonsense? I also asked them about borates but recieved no response on that one. No refund, now I can't breath, coughing... Buyers beware, if you're at all sensitive let me give you the warning that the Saatva website does not give you: This mattress may cause lung irritation.

We take these false accusations very seriously. This person never bought from us. She bought a used Saatva from a thrift store. Actually, we, nor this person can attest that the used mattress she bought from the thrift store is a genuine Saatva. We have no idea what condition or even how many owners had this used mattress. We do know the factory fresh Saatva mattresses are environmentally friendly with no irritants. We wish this person the best of luck in finding her mattress source. Again, it is only appropriate that this person should state she did not buy from Saatva.

It is indeed a Saatva, the thrift store (Hope Thrift in Stratford NJ) got it directly from the manufacturer along with several other Saatvas and has direct contact with the Saatva company. Not to mention all the tags that say "Saatva" on it. And it most certainly DOES cause lung irritation in my case at least. Most fire barriers can, in sensitive people anyway, and nobody tells you this. I was just hoping this one would be different. The website supposedly answers the question of what's in the fire barrier, but I found out after purchase that it doesn't tell you everything that's in there. Not supplying full information and then telling people there are "no irritants" is just asking for more problems.

I didn't know I was sensitive to chemicals and irritants until I purchased a new mattress from usmattress.com and tossed my 12 year old mattress. I noticed a horrible strong chemical smell, from my beautyrest. I continued to sleep on it for 3 nights. After the 3rd night, I thought I was going to die. My brain felt foggy, I was getting headaches, and felt really dizzy. Returned thr mattress and lost 65% of my money. I then purchased this Luxury Firm mattres from Saatva. I did notice a slight fume from it when I removed it from the plastic wrap. They claim its chemical free BUT I doubt it. This other chemical free mattress I came across costed 4 times this and it required a signed doctor's note. I'm not getting any headaches but I am getting the same weird pressure feeling on my top right and back side of my head. Like inflammation or swelling. It's weird and feels numb at times. I was scared and removed my mattress to sleep on the floor. It eventually went away after a few hours. I will give Saatva another try before I ask for a return just to make sure it's the mattress giving me these symptoms. Will update in 3 or so days.

Just realized that my Mattress was shipped by Pleasant Mattress from Fresno, CA. Pretty sure that my Saatva Mattress was manufactured there. I also ordered an Organic Mattress from them. It was foul smelling and the company that sold it to me, Slumber and Serenity does not accept returns. Could be some cross contamination going on if it was indeed manufactured in the same facility. Also, when I contacted Pleasant Mattress regarding the mattress I purchased from Slumber n Serenity, they told me there was no,such thing as a chemical free mattress.
