We started on a medium using our traditional mattress' box spring. The mattress seemed way too soft and gave me back pain from my mid-section sinking when I was on my stomach. Customer service told us that tradition box springs won't work with this mattress. We put it on the floor and there was some improvement, but not enough. They sent us a firm and we donated the medium. There is a big divide between the firm and the medium. My wife first described the firm as "a rock." I was pleased by the firmness, but she was not convinced. So far we have had a week of better sleep on the firm, but it is firmer than we expected.
